Uncasville, CT (February 15, 2022) – DiJonai Carrington and Team Cloud faced Team Brown to tip off the last week of off-season play. Team Cloud bested Team Brown, 85-80. Carrington tallied 25 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. Team Cloud then lost to Team Hawkins, 90-70. Carrington had 24 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. In their last game of the week, Team Cloud faced Team Harrison, losing 85-79. Carrington tallied 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in the effort.

Taj Cole and Team Brown had a difficult week, losing all three of their games. Team Brown first faced Team Cloud, losing 85-80. Cole notched six points, two rebounds, four assists and three steals. Next, Team Brown met Team Harrison, falling 86-81. Cole tallied 14 points, two rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Lastly, Team Brown played Team Hawkins, losing 104-90. Cole notched 22 points, two rebounds, three assists and a steal on the night.

Courtney Williams and Team Harrison went undefeated last week. To start their week, Team Harrison had a decisive win over Team Hawkins, beating them 79-54. Williams had four points, three rebounds, eight assists and three steals in the win. Next, Team Harrison faced Team Brown, winning 86-81. Williams had a double-double with 13 points, one rebound, 10 assists and five steals. Team Harrison finished their week with a win against Team Cloud, 85-79. Williams tallied her second double-double of the week with 16 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocks in the effort.

Beatrice Mompremier and her Uni Gyor squad faced Hungarian League opponent Ujbuda, beating them 79-58. Mompremier tallied her 13th double-double of the off-season with 10 points, 12 rebounds and an assist. Uni Gyor currently has a 12-5 record.

Jonquel Jones and Bosnia & Herzegovina had a 1-1 record in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Osaka, Japan. Bosnia & Herzegovina first met Canada, losing 96-64. J. Jones had 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals in the match. Next, Bosnia & Herzegovina beat Japan, 87-82. J. Jones had a dominant performance and a double-double with 36 points, 23 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and an efficiency valuation of 51. The win earned Bosnia & Herzegovina a place at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in 2023, and J. Jones’ performance landed her with the TISSOT Most Valuable Player award at the Qualifying Tournament.

Brionna Jones, Alyssa Thomas and USA Basketball went undefeated with a 2-0 record at the  FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Washington, D.C. USAB first met Belgium, beating them 84-75. Thomas had six points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals, while B. Jones tallied 14 points and six rebounds in the effort. USAB then faced Puerto Rico, coming away with a 93-55 win. Thomas notched six points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals; and B. Jones had 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Thomas led USAB in steals, was second in assists, and tied for third in rebounding during the tournament; while B. Jones led USAB in points and rebounds. Connecticut Sun Head Coach, Curt Miller and Head Athletic Trainer, Nicole Alexander served on the USAB staff. Miller served as Court Coach and Team Scout, and Alexander was a part of the first all-women medical staff for a USA Women’s Basketball Team.

Connecticut Sun players return to action this week. Jasmine Thomas, DeWanna Bonner and CBK Mersin will play Game 1 of the EuroCup Round of 16 against Flammes at 10:00 A.M. EST; Carrington and Team Cloud will play Taj Cole and Team Harrison at 6:30 P.M. EST; Williams and Team Sims will play Team Hawkins at 9:00 P.M. EST; A.Thomas, B. Jones, and ZVVZ USK Praha will play Czech League opponent Strakonice U19; and Stephanie Jones and Gorzow will play Polish League counterpart AZS Poznan on February 16. CBK Mersin play Game 2 of the EuroCup Round of 16 against Flammes at 11:00 A.M. EST; Natisha Hiedeman and her Nadezhda squad face Noginsk; Kaila Charles and Dynamo Novosibirsk face Spartak Moscow; and J. Jones and UMMC Ekaterinburg play Enisey Krasnoyarsk on February 17. Mompremier and Uni Gyor play Hungarian League opponent PEAC-Pecs; Cole and Team Harrison will play Williams and Team Sims at 8:30 P.M. EST; and Carrington and Team Cloud will play Team Hawkins at 11:30 P.M. EST on February 18. A. Thomas, B. Jones and ZVVZ USK Praha play EuroLeague opponent TTT Riga at 12:00 P.M. EST; Carrington and Team Cloud will play Williams and Team Sims at 7:00 P.M. EST; and Cole and Team Harrison will play Team Hawkins at 9:30 P.M. EST on February 19. Hiedeman and Nadezhda will play Enisey Krasnoyarsk, and Charles and Novosibirsk will face J. Jones and UMMC Ekaterinburg in a Russian League match on February 20 to finish out the week of games.
