Overseas Rundown Vol. 18
Uncasville, CT (March 7, 2022) – Beatrice Mompremier and Uni Gyor opened last week’s overseas play falling to Hungarian League opponent PEAC-Pecs, 78-62. Mompremier notched a double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds, along with one steal and one block in the effort. Later in the week, Mompremier and Uni Gyor defeated Hungarian League rival Cegledi, 98-64. Mompremier finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks in the victory. Uni Gyor is now third in the Hungarian league standings with a 14-6 record.
Dewanna Bonner, Jasmine Thomas and CBK Mersin began their week by handily defeating Joyner Holmes and Prometey in Game 2 of the EuroCup Quarterfinals, 95-66. J. Thomas had 15 points, two rebounds, three assists and one steal. Bonner added four points, nine rebounds and four assists in the win. Holmes notched eight points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in the effort.
Bonner, J. Thomas and CBK Mersin then defeated Turkish League opponent Hatay, 92-62. Bonner tallied a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, along with three assists in the win. J. Thomas had 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and one block. CBK Mersin is third in Turkish League standings with a record of 15-4.
Last week, Alyssa Thomas was named EuroLeague MVP for the month of February. Thomas averaged 18 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and 1.5 steals per contest last month for her USK Praha squad.
Thomas picked up where she left off in USK Praha’s first win of the week, defeating KP Brno 109-41. Thomas had 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals for her team. Connecticut Sun teammate, Brionna Jones, notched 23 points, five rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block in the win. USK Praha then took on Czech League opponent, Žabiny Brno, winning 95-45. A. Thomas had nine points, three rebounds, six assists, three steals and one block. B. Jones tallied a double-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks. USK Praha remains undefeated in Czech League play at 17-0.
Stephanie Jones and her Gorzow squad defeated Ślęza Wrocław, 88-63. S. Jones had 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal. The victory moves Gorzow to 13-7 and fourth place in Polish League standings.
Connecticut Sun players return to overseas play this week beginning with A. Thomas, B. Jones and USK Praha playing Beretta Familia Schio in the EuroLeague quarterfinals at 12:00 P.M. EST on March 8. Mompremier and Uni Gyor face Hungarian League opponent Miskolc at 12:30 P.M. EST; and A. Thomas, B. Jones and USK Praha play Ostrava in the Czech League playoffs at 12:00 P.M. EST on March 9. Yvonne Anderson and Venezia take on Valencia in the EuroCup quarterfinals at 2:30 P.M. EST; and J. Thomas, Bonner and CBK Mersin play Lyon in the EuroCup quarterfinals at 2:00 P.M. EST on March 10. Mompremier and Uni Gyor play Csata at 12:00 P.M. EST; A. Thomas, B. Jones and USK Praha play Ostrava at 12:00 P.M. EST; and S. Jones and Gorzow play Ślęza Wrocław in the Polish League quarterfinals at 12:00 P.M. EST on March 12. To finish out the week, J. Thomas, Bonner and CBK Mersin face off against Nesibe Aydin at 6:00 A.M. EST; Anderson and Venezia play San Giovanni at 1:00 P.M. EST; and S. Jones and Gorzow play Ślęza Wrocław at 1:00 P.M. EST on March 13.
