Overseas Rundown Vol. 19
Uncasville, CT (March 14, 2022) – Brionna Jones, Alyssa Thomas and USK Praha tipped off this week’s overseas play with a 72-70 win against Famila Schio in Game 1 of the EuroLeague Quarterfinals. USK Praha found themselves down by as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter, but the team battled back, outscoring Famila Schio 24-16 in the final ten minutes. B. Jones had 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and one steal; while A. Thomas added 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal in the win. Later in the week, USK Praha faced off against Ostrava in Game 1 of the Czech League Quarterfinals, winning 119-56. B. Jones tallied 19 points, three rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block. A. Thomas had six points, four rebounds, five assists and one steal in the effort.
Beatrice Mompremier and her Uni Gyor squad fell to Hungarian League opponent, Miskolc, 64-58. Mompremier had nine points, 15 rebounds, one assist and one steal in the effort. Eleven of Mompremier’s game-leading 15 rebounds were on the offensive end. Uni Gyor then went on to play FCSM Csata, winning 90-57. Mompremier notched a double-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and one block in the victory. Uni Gyor is now 15-7 in Hungarian League action, sitting at fourth in the standings.
Dewanna Bonner, Jasmine Thomas and CBK Mersin faced off against Lyon in Game 1 of the EuroCup Quarterfinals, winning 77-64. Bonner led the way for her squad with 16 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal, earning her Player of the Game accolades. J. Thomas added nine points, three rebounds and one steal in the win. CBK Mersin is 15-4 overall, and third in the Turkish League standings.
Stephanie Jones and Gorzow defeated Sleza Wroclaw in Game 1 of the Polish League Quarterfinals, 83-60. S. Jones tallied an impressive double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds, along with two assists, one steal and one block in the win. The following day in Game 2 of the Quarterfinals against Sleza Wroclaw, Gorzow was victorious once again, winning 76-62. S. Jones finished with eight points, 11 rebounds, one assist, one steal and two blocks.
To close out last week’s overseas play, Yvonne Anderson and Umana Reyer defeated Italian League opponent San Giovanni, 86-75. Anderson had 23 points, three rebounds, four assists and one steal in the victory. Anderson currently leads Umana Reyer in scoring and assists, averaging 14.7 points and 5.4 assists per game. Umana Reyer is 15-2 in Italian League play and fourth in the standings.
Connecticut Sun players return to overseas action this week starting with Anderson and Umana Reyer taking on Valencia in Game 1 of the EuroCup Quarterfinals at 2:30 P.M. EST; and B. Jones, A. Thomas and USK Praha playing in Game 2 of the EuroLeague Quarterfinals against Famila Schio at 2:30 P.M. EST on March 15. Anderson and Umana Reyer will then play Italian League opponent Ragusa at 2:30 P.M. EST on March 16. J. Thomas, Bonner and CBK Mersin match up against Lyon in Game 2 of the EuroCup Quarterfinals at 12:00 P.M. EST on March 17. B. Jones, A. Thomas and USK Praha will play Famila Schio in Game 3 of the EuroLeague Quarterfinals at 1:00 P.M. EST, if needed, on March 18. S. Jones and Gorzow play at Sleza Wroclaw in the Polish League Quarterfinals at 12:00 P.M. EST on March 19. To wrap up the week of overseas play, J. Thomas, Bonner and CBK Mersin take on Turkish League opponent Iszmit at 7:00 A.M EST; and Anderson and Umana Reyer face off against Valencia in Game 2 of the EuroCup Quarterfinals at 3:30 P.M. EST on March 20.
