Off-Season Rundown Vol.17

Uncasville, CT (February 20, 2023) – Olivia Nelson-Ododa and the Melbourne Boomers were back on Wednesday, February 15 against Townsville. The Boomers dropped in the contest in double overtime, 101-96. Nelson-Ododa finished with a double-double, tallying 17 points, 10 rebounds, one assist and four blocks in the effort. On Sunday, February 19, Nelson-Ododa and the Melbourne Boomers defeated Sydney, 87-57. Nelson-Ododa tallied six points, eight rebounds, one assist and two steals in the win.

 

Alyssa Thomas, Brionna Jones and USK Prague picked up a 115-76 win over Czech League opponent, Chomutov on Wednesday, February 15. Thomas filled the stat sheet with 16 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals. Jones finished with 37 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal in the win. On Friday, February 17, Thomas, Jones and USK Prague defeated Strakonice, 118-32. Jones led her team with 32 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block. Thomas added 11 points, 17 rebounds, five assists and two steals.

 

Natisha Hiedeman and Maccabi Ashdod notched a 96-79 win over Israeli League foe, Asa Jerusalem on Thursday, February 16. Hiedeman tallied seven points, six rebounds, six assists and one steal in the victory. With the win, Maccabi Ashdod stays undefeated in Israeli League play with a record of 15-0.

 

Lauren Cox and Valencia defeated Uni Girona in a Spanish League matchup, 77-62 on Thursday, February 16. Cox finished with 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and three blocks. On Sunday, February 19, Cox and Valencia picked up another Spanish League victory over Barcelona CBS. Cox tallied nine points, one rebound, one assist, one steal and one block in the win.

 

Joyner Holmes and Sassari notched an 83-70 victory over Italian League opponent, Faenza, on Saturday, February 18. Holmes tallied 15 points, two rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win. Sassari currently sits in fourth in Italian League standings at 15-4.

 

Mikiah Herbert Harrigan and the London Lions fell in close matchup against the Caledonia Gladiators, 68-67 on Sunday, February 19. Herbert Harrigan led her team in the effort with 26 points, seven rebounds, two steals and one block in the effort.

 

Connecticut Sun players are back in overseas action this week beginning with Hiedeman and Maccabi Ashdod taking on Eliztur Ramla on February 20 at 12:00 PM EST. Nelson-Ododa and the Melbourne Boomers play Sydney at 1:00 AM EST; Thomas, Jones and USK Prague match up against Olympiacos at 10:00 AM EST; Cox and Valencia take on Fenerbahce at 11:00 AM EST; and DeWanna Bonner and CBK Merson play Uni Girona at 2:45 PM EST on February 22. Nelson-Ododa and the Melbourne Boomers take on Southside at 2:30 AM EST; and Cox and Valencia play Estudiantes at 1:30 PM EST on February 25. To close out the week, Herbert Harrigan and the London Lions match up against the Cardiff Met Archers at 7:30 AM EST; Thomas, Jones and USK Prague take on Trutnov at 10:00 AM EST; and Holmes and Sassari match up against Ragusa at 10:00 AM EST on February 26.
