Off-Season Rundown Vol. 15

Uncasville, CT (January 30, 2023) – Natisha Hiedeman and Maccabi Ashdod defeated Hapoel Rishon LeZion, 91-80, in an Israeli League matchup on Monday, January 23. Hiedeman led her team with 28 points, nailing 4-5 from behind the arc. She also added six rebounds, three assists and one steal as Maccabi Ashdod moves to 13-0 in Israeli League play.

 

Alyssa Thomas, Brionna Jones and USK Prague defeated BC Polkowice, 92-57, on Wednesday, January 25 in EuroLeague competition. Thomas tallied 16 points, eight rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block. Jones added eight points, nine rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. With the win, USK Prague moves into second place in the Group A EuroLeague standings, with an 8-3 record. On Friday, January 27, Jones, Thomas and USK Prague were victorious against Czech League opponent, Chomutov, 125-50. Jones tallied 24 points, nine rebounds, one steal and two blocks. Thomas added six points, four rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block in the win.

 

DeWanna Bonner and CBK Mersin defeated DVTK Hun-Therm, 78-77, on Thursday, January 26 in EuroLeague play. After trailing 77-74 with 57 seconds left in the contest, Bonner scored the final four points of the game to secure the victory for her team. She led her squad with 25 points, two rebounds, three assists and one steal, as CBK Mersin moves into third in Group B EuroLeague standings at 7-4. On Saturday, January 28, Bonner and CBK Mersin picked up a 90-85 victory over Turkish League opponent, Bursa. Bonner led her team with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists in the win.

 

Olivia Nelson-Ododa and the Melbourne Boomers dropped a close game to the Perth Lynx on Saturday, January 28, 91-82. Nelson-Ododa tallied 19 points, six rebounds, three steals and three blocks in the effort. With the loss, the Boomers slide to second overall in the WNBL standings at 11-4.

 

Joyner Holmes and Sassari defeated Libertas Moncalieri in Italian League action, 79-65. Holmes finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals in Sassari’s fourth straight win in Italian League play.

 

Connecticut Sun players are back in overseas action this week beginning with Bonner and CBK Mersin taking on Schio at 11:00 AM ET; and Jones, Thomas and USK Prague playing Fenerbahce at 1:00 PM ET on January 31. Bonner and CBK Mersin match up against Bellona Kayseri at 10:00 AM ET on February 3. On February 4, Holmes and Sassari take on Campobasso at 2:30 PM ET; and Nelson-Ododa and Melbourne play Bendigo at 11:00 PM ET. To close out the week, Ty Harris and Cankaya play Hatay at 5:00 AM ET on February 5.
