Sun Visit Sparks on Thursday Night
Los Angeles, CA: The Connecticut Sun (5-23) continue their west coast road-trip, taking on the Los Angeles Sparks (13-15) on Thursday, August 7 at 10:00 PM ET/7:00 PM PT at Crypto.com Arena. The game will air locally on NBC Sports Boston with Brendan Glasheen and Edona Thaqi on the call. It will also be available to stream on WNBA League Pass.
In their last game on Tuesday night, the Sun fell to the Phoenix Mercury on 88-66 on the road in Phoenix. Marina Mabrey finished with 18 points and three assists. Following Mabrey, Tina Charles finished 16 points, a team-high seven rebounds, and two blocks. Rounding out the double-digit scorers was Leila Lacan with 10 points, five rebounds, and a career-high tying six steals. With her six steals, Lacan tied herself for the most steals by a Sun player this season in a single game. Over 11 games played she is averaging 2.3 steals per game, the most by any rookie this season.
Last time out against the Sparks on Thursday, July 24, the Sun fell 101-86. Tina Charles led the Sun with her fifth double-double of the season, notching 24 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal in the game. She finished 10/18 from the field, including 1/1 from beyond the three-point arc. The loss marked the Sun’s first home loss to the Sparks since August 28, 2020, as Connecticut entered the game winners of seven straight against Los Angeles when playing at home.
The Sparks enter Thursday’s game coming off an 100-91 win over the Indiana Fever on Tuesday night. Guards Rickea Jackson and Kelsey Plum each scored 25 points to lead Los Angeles in the win. Head Coach Lynne Roberts enters her first season at the helm of the Sparks, after most recently serving as the head coach for the University of Utah women’s basketball team for nine seasons.
