Sun Back in Action Thursday against Sparks
Uncasville, CT: The Connecticut Sun (3-19) begin a five-game homestand on Thursday, July 24 at 7:00 PM ET when they host the Los Angeles Sparks (9-14) at Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will air locally on NBC Sports Boston with Brendan Glasheen, Ashley Battle and Edona Thaqi on the call. It will also be available to stream on the ESPN App.
Thursday marks the Sun’s first game back after the 2025 WNBA All-Star Break. In their last time out on July 15, the team fell to the Indiana Fever, 85-77, at the TD Garden in Boston. The two teams played in front of a sold-out crowd, with 19,156 tickets sold, marking the third sell out of the 2025 season for the Sun, the third highest attendance to a WNBA game this season to date, and the second largest number of tickets sold to a Connecticut Sun game in the franchise’s history. Tina Charles led the Sun in the effort with her fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 21 points, a season-high 11 rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in the game. Rookie guard Leila Lacan added a career-high 19 points, along with one rebound, one assist and a career-high three steals in 24 minutes off the bench.
Last time out against the Sparks on Sunday July 13, the Sun fell in a close game, 92-88, in Los Angeles. Bria Hartley led the Sun with 25 points, one rebound, a season-high six assists and one steal in 32 minutes played. It marked her first 20+ points outing since August 21, 2020 and her seventh 20+ performance of her career. Saniya Rivers recorded a career-high 20 points, along with six rebounds, one assist, three steals and one block in the game. The rookie guard made a career-high three three-point field goals and recorded her fifth game of the season with 3+ steals. The loss marked the Sun’s first regular season loss to the Sparks since August 28, 2020, after winning 13 straight. Connecticut holds a 31-29 all-time regular season record against Los Angeles, including an 18-11 record when playing at home.
The Sparks enter Thursday’s contest on a three-game win streak, most recently defeating the Washington Mystics on the road on Tuesday night, 93-86. Dearica Hamby led the way for Los Angeles with a double-double, tallying 24 points and 14 rebounds, while sophomore guard Rickea Jackson added 22 points and four assists. Head Coach Lynne Roberts enters her first season at the helm of the Sparks, after most recently serving as the head coach for the University of Utah women’s basketball team for nine seasons.
