Sun Back in Connecticut Friday Night for Tilt with Sky

Uncasville, CT: The Connecticut Sun (20-7) host the Chicago Sky (11-16) on Friday, August 23 at 7:30 PM ET at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Sun lead the 2024 regular season series with the Sky, 2-0, winning their first two matchups of the season in Chicago on May 25 and June 12. The matchup will be the first between the two teams since the Sun acquired guard Marina Mabrey in exchange for guards Rachel Banham and Moriah Jefferson on July 17. The game will air on ION and stream live on WNBA League Pass.

The Sun defeated the Los Angeles Sparks (6-22), 69-61, in a sold-out game at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The Sun moved to 2-0 in the regular season series and notched their 11th straight win over the Sparks, dating back to the 2020 season. The game made history as the first WNBA game to be held at the storied TD Garden. The Sun’s 19,156 tickets sold marked the team’s sixth sell out of the 2024 season, the third highest attendance to a WNBA game this season to date, and the largest number of tickets sold to a Connecticut Sun game in the franchise’s history.

DiJonai Carrington shined for the Sun in the win, leading the way with 19 points, four rebounds, one assist and three steals in the win. Brionna Jones enjoyed a successful night in the Garden, notching 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. Alyssa Thomas filled the stat sheet in the win with nine points, 16 rebounds, eight assists and three steals, while Ty Harris added 14 points going 3/6 from beyond the arc to round out the double-digit scorers for the Sun.

Sun center Brionna Jones notched her 2,000th career-point in the team’s 69-61 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday night. Jones has played all eight seasons in the WNBA with the Connecticut Sun and is one of just 12 players in franchise history to score 2,000 points in a Sun uniform. She is also one of five players in franchise history with 2,000+ points, 900+ rebounds, 200+ assists and 200+ steals in their career with Connecticut.

Opponent History:

Connecticut is 35-32 all-time against Chicago during regular season action, with a 17-14 record at home. The Sun have won five of the last six regular season matchups dating back to the beginning of the 2023 season. Chicago enters Friday’s game coming off an 86-68 loss to the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday. Head Coach Teresa Weatherspoon is in her first season with the Sky.

On July 17, the Connecticut Sun announced that the organization has acquired six-year veteran guard Marina Mabrey from the Chicago Sky, in exchange for guards Rachel Banham and Moriah Jefferson. Additionally, the Sun sent their 2025 first round pick and rights to swap 2026 first round picks (Phoenix’s 2026 first round pick acquired by Chicago prior to the 2024 season for Connecticut’s 2026 first round pick) to the Sky and receive the Sky’s 2025 second round pick.
