Sun Take On Mystics to Open 2025 Season Sunday Afternoon
Uncasville, CT: The Connecticut Sun (0-0) open the 2025 regular season at home when they host the Washington Mystics (1-0) on Sunday, May 18 at 1:00pm ET at Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will air on NBC Sports Boston, with Brendan Glasheen, Edona Thaqi and Terrika Foster-Brasby on the call, and is also available to stream live on WNBA League Pass. The Sun’s Home Opener contest is presented by TD Bank.
Sunday’s matchup will mark the first regular season game for new Connecticut Sun Head Coach Rachid Meziane, as he looks to lead the new-look Sun with the likes of WNBA veterans Tina Charles, Marina Mabrey, Lindsay Allen and Bria Hartley, alongside a promising rookie class of Aneesah Morrow, Saniya Rivers and Rayah Marshall into a successful 2025 regular season.
Connecticut finished the 2025 preseason with a 94-86 win over the New York Liberty on Friday, May 9. Four Sun players recorded double-digit outings, with veteran forward-center Tina Charles leading the way with 17 points, three assists and two steals in 24 minutes of action. Sophomore guard Jacy Sheldon tallied 16 points, going 3/4 from beyond the arc, while 2024 Sun returners Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Marina Mabrey added 15 and 13 points respectively.
The Sun swept the regular season series with the Mystics in 2024, 4-0. Connecticut enters Sunday’s matchup winning 14 of the last 15 regular season contests against Washington since the 2020 season, including nine straight.
The Mystics enter Sunday’s game coming off a down-to-the-wire 94-90 win over the Atlanta Dream on Friday night. Their roster is headlined by former UConn standouts Aaliyah Edwards and Stephanie Dolson, along with veteran guard Brittney Sykes and 6-5 forward-center Shakira Austin. Washington also added four rookies to their 2025 roster, drafting Sonia Citron (No. 3), Kiki Iriafen (No. 4), Georgia Amoore (No. 6) and Lucy Olsen (No. 23). Mystics’ Head Coach Sydney Johnson enters his first season at the helm in D.C.
