Sun Host Valkyries Sunday Afternoon

Uncasville, CT: The Connecticut Sun (3-20) continue their five-game homestand on Sunday, July 27 at 1:00 PM ET when they host the Golden State Valkyries (11-12) at Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will air nationally on CBS Sports Network and locally on NBC Sports Boston with Brendan Glasheen, Ashley Battle and Edona Thaqi on the call. It will also be available to stream on WNBA League Pass.

Sunday’s game is the Connecticut’s Sun annual Indigenous Peoples’ Game, where fans will have the opportunity to learn more about the Mohegan Tribe, while its leadership will perform a blessing and welcome the newest WNBA expansion team to Mohegan Sun Arena for the first time ever.

The Sun enter Sunday’s matchup coming of a 101-86 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday night in Connecticut. Tina Charles led the Sun with her fifth double-double of the season, notching 24 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal in the game. With two assists in the game, she is now just three assists-shy of 1,000 assists in her WNBA career. Olivia Nelson-Ododa contributed 17 points, four rebounds and two blocks in 29 minutes of action. The outing marked her 10th game this season with 10+ points. She entered the 2025 regular season with just 10 regular season games with 10+ points in her career. Marina Mabrey made her return to the court for the Sun after missing the last nine games with a left knee injury. Mabrey played 26 minutes in the game, notching seven points, two rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Last time out against the Valkyries in their first-ever meeting on Sunday June 22, the Sun fell 87-63, on the road in San Francisco. Aneesah Morrow led the way for Connecticut with 14 points and four rebounds, while Jacy Sheldon chipped in with 10 points, two rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in the game. It was the Sun’s first game of the season missing star shooting guard Marina Mabrey due her left knee injury. The Sun will look for their first-ever win against the Valkyries as they host them for the first time in Connecticut on Sunday afternoon.

The Valkyries enter Sunday’s contest coming of an 86-76 victory of the Dallas Wings on Friday night. Veteran guard Tiffany Hayes led the way for Golden State with 17 points, three rebounds and five assists. Natalie Nakase enjoys her first season as a WNBA Head Coach with Golden State, after previously serving as an assistant for the Las Vegas Aces from 2022-2024, where she helped lead the team to two WNBA Championships (2022, 2023).
