Sun Take On Valkyries for the First Time Sunday

San Francisco, CA: The Connecticut Sun (2-11) head west to begin a four-game road-trip on Sunday, June 22 to take on the Golden State Valkyries (6-6) at 8:30 PM ET/5:30 PM PT at the Chase Center. The game will air on NBC Sports Boston with Brendan Glasheen and Terrika Foster-Brasby on the call. It will also be available to stream on WNBA League Pass.

Last time out on Friday night, the Sun fell to the Dallas Wings at home, 86-83. Tina Charles led the Sun in the effort with 26 points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal in 29 minutes played. She finished 8/17 from the floor and 10/11 from the free-throw line. The outing marked her fifth 20+ point performance of the season, as well as the seventh game she has led the Sun in scoring. Jacy Sheldon finished with 10 points, one rebound and two assists on the night. She was a perfect 4/4 from the floor, including 2/2 from beyond the three-point line. Sheldon has finished in double-digit scoring in four of the Sun’s last five games. Rookie forward Aneesah Morrow rounded on the Sun’s 10+ point scorers with 10 points, seven rebounds and a career-high three assists.

Sunday’s meeting marks the Sun’s first-ever game against Golden State. In the 2025 WNBA Expansion draft, the Valkyries drafted former Sun guard Veronica Burton, who is currently leading them in assists per game (5.2) and averaging a career-high 11.2 points per game. Golden State’s roster also features 12-year veteran guard Tiffany Hayes who played one season with the Sun in 2023. Connecticut will host Golden State for the first time on Sunday, July 27 at Mohegan Sun Arena and then face off for the final time during the 2025 regular season on August 11 in San Francisco.

The Valkyries enter Sunday’s game coming off an 88-77 win over the Indiana Fever on Thursday night. Forward Kayla Thornton led the way with 16 points, six rebounds and one steal, while Tiffany Hayes added 14 points and a team-high five assists. Natalie Nakase enjoys her first season as a WNBA Head Coach, after previously serving as an assistant for the Las Vegas Aces from 2022-2024, where she helped lead the team to two WNBA Championships (2022, 2023).
