Sun Visit Liberty on Sunday Afternoon
Brooklyn, NY: The Connecticut Sun (1-5) travel to Brooklyn on Sunday, June 1 to take on the New York Liberty (6-0) at 3:00 PM ET at the Barclays Center. Sunday’s contest marks Connecticut’s first Commissioner’s Cup matchup of the 2025 season. The game will air on NBC Sports Boston with Brendan Glasheen and Edona Thaqi on the call. It will also be available to stream on WNBA League Pass.
The Sun defeated the Indiana Fever, 85-83, on the road on Friday, May 30 for their first victory of the 2025 regular season. The win marked Head Coach Rachid Meziane’s first win as the head coach for the Sun and also the franchise’s 500th regular season win (Connecticut Sun and Orlando Miracle). Marina Mabrey led the Sun in the win, notching a season-high 26 points, along with five rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block. She finished 10/17 from the field, including 4/9 from beyond the arc. Mabrey has finished in double-digits in five of the Sun’s six contests this season.
Connecticut and New York faced off during preseason action on Friday, May 9, with the Sun coming away with a 94-86 victory in Brooklyn. Tina Charles led the Sun with 17 points, while Jacy Sheldon contributed 16 points, going 3/4 from beyond the three-point arc. The Sun dropped the 2024 regular season series with the Liberty, 1-3, but won the most recent matchup on August 24, 2024, 72-64, in New York. Marina Mabrey led the Sun in that game, notching 15 points, six rebounds and four assists. The Sun is 49-48 all-time against the Liberty during the regular season, including a 21-27 record on the road.
New York enters Sunday afternoon’s game coming of an 85-63 win of the Washington Mystics on the road on Friday night. Sabrina Ionescu led the Liberty with 28 points, three rebounds and five assists in the victory. Head Coach Sandy Brondello enters her fourth season at the helm in New York, posting a regular season record of 86-36.
