Sun Take on Mystics Sunday Afternoon
Washington D.C.: The Connecticut Sun (2-6) are set to take on the Washington Mystics (3-6) on Sunday, June 8 at 3:00 PM ET on the road in the nation’s capital. The game will air on NBC Sports Boston with Brendan Glasheen and Meghan McKeown on the call. It will also be available to stream on WNBA League Pass.
On Friday night, the Sun defeated the Atlanta Dream, 84-76, for their first home win and first Commissioner’s Cup win of the 2025 season. Marina Mabrey led the way for Connecticut, tallying a season-high 34 points, along with four rebounds, four assists and one block in the win. Her 34 points fell two short of her career-high and also her first 30+ outing since the 2023 regular season. She has gone for 30+ points four times in her WNBA career.
In their first meeting against the Mystics on May 18 in Connecticut, the Sun fell 90-85. Tina Charles led the Sun with her first double-double back in a Sun uniform with a stat line of 23 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks on 8-for-15 shooting from the field and 7-for-8 shooting from the free throw line. Olivia Nelson-Ododa had a great start to her season, as well, tallying 18 points and eight rebounds. Marina Mabrey, Jacy Sheldon, and Bria Hartley all had 11 points. Lindsay Allen had an impressive debut in a Sun jersey, distributing eight assists.
Connecticut enters Sunday’s match up with a 60-36 all-time regular season record with Washington, including a 24-22 record when playing on the road in D.C.. The Sun have won four straight playing in Washington D.C. during the regular season, dating back to the 2022 season.
The Mystics enter Sunday’s game coming off an 86-78 loss to the New York Liberty on Thursday night. Reigning WNBA Rookie of the Month Kiki Iriafen led Washington with 17 points, nine rebounds and one assist, while Jade Melbourne added 15 points, two rebounds and four assists. Head Coach Sydney Johnson is in his first season at the helm of the Mystics.
