Sun Start West Coast Trip in Phoenix Tuesday Night
Phoenix, AZ: The Connecticut Sun (5-22) head out on a four-game road trip beginning on Tuesday, August 5 to take on the Phoenix Mercury (17-11) at 10:00 PM ET/7:00 PM PT at PHX Arena. The game will air locally on NBC Sports Boston with Brendan Glasheen and Edona Thaqi on the call. It will also be available to stream on WNBA League Pass.
On Sunday afternoon, the Sun fell to the New York Liberty, 87-78. Tina Charles finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. Following Charles, Aneesah Morrow finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 16 points, a team-high nine rebounds, and two blocks. Rounding out the double-digit scorers was Bria Hartley with 12 points and four assists and Marina Mabrey with 10 points and three rebounds.
Last time out against the Mercury, the Sun fell in a close contest, 83-75, at home in Uncasville. Rookie forward Aneesah Morrow tallied a then career-high 16 points, nine rebounds, one assist and three steals in 23 minutes off the bench in the game. Jacy Sheldon added 13 points and one assist and Olivia Nelson-Ododa chipped in a double-double with 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. The loss marked the Sun’s first “home” loss to the Mercury since September 9, 2020 when they fell 100-95 during the Covid-19 “bubble” season in Florida. The last time Phoenix won a regular season contest in Uncasville was August 27, 2015, 81-80.
The Mercury enter Tuesday’s game coming off an 83-67 road win over the Chicago Sky on Sunday. Veteran forward Alyssa Thomas notched a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, while Kahleah Copper led the team with 25 points Head Coach Nate Tibbets is enjoying his second season at the helm of the Mercury, with an all-time regular season record of 36-32.
