Sun Close Out Road Trip in Dallas on Wednesday
Arlington, TX: The Connecticut Sun (9-28) close out their three-game road trip in Texas, taking on the Dallas Wings (9-29) on Wednesday, August 27 at 8:00 PM ET/7:00 PM CT at the College Park Center. The game will air locally on NBC Sports Boston with Brendan Glasheen and Terrika Foster-Brasby on the call. It will also be available to stream on WNBA League Pass.
The Sun fell in a close contest with the New York Liberty, 81-79, on the road on Monday night. Rookie guard Leila Lacan led the Sun with a career-high 22 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in the game. She finished 9/15 from the floor, including 2/3 from beyond the three-point arc. Lacan has tallied at least two steals in 13 games for Connecticut this season. Rookie forward Aneesah Morrow added her fifth double-double of the season with 18 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Her 15 boards tied Washington’s Kiki Iriafen for most rebounds by a rookie in a game this season.
On Tuesday August 26, Sun center Tina Charles was named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the week of August 18-August 24. It marked the 33rd time she has earned the honor, the most by any player in league history. It also marks her 11th Eastern Conference Player of the Week nod with the Connecticut Sun and her first honor since September 12, 2021, during her time with the Mystics. During the week of August 18-August 24, Charles led the Sun to a 3-0 record and averaged 19.0 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.
Last time out against the Dallas Wings on June 20, the Sun fell in a close contest at home, 86-83. Tina Charles led the Sun in the effort with 26 points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal in 29 minutes played. She finished 8/17 from the floor and 10/11 from the free-throw line. Rookie forward Aneesah Morrow added 10 points, seven rebounds and a career-high three assists. The Sun enter Wednesday’s contest with a 45-32 all-time regular season record against the Wings, including a 20-19 regular season record when playing on the road. Connecticut has not lost a regular season game in Dallas since August 12, 2023.
The Wings enter Wednesday’s contest coming of a 90-81 loss to the Golden State Valkyries at home on Sunday. Forward Maddy Siegrist led Dallas in the effort with 16 points, five rebounds and one assist, while Myisha Hines-Allen and Haley Jones each contributed 15 points apiece. Head Coach Chris Koclanes is in his first season as the Head Coach of the Wings, after previously serving as an assistant coach for USC women’s basketball (2024), the Los Angeles Sparks (2023) and the Connecticut Sun (2019-2022).
