Uncasville, CT (October 31, 2022) – Alyssa Thomas and USK Prague opened last week’s off-season play with an 82-71 win over Szekszard in the opening round of EuroLeague competition. Thomas stuffed the stat sheet, notching a triple-double in the final moments of the game with 15 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists and five steals. She also played all 40 minutes of the contest for USK Prague. Later in the week, Thomas and USK Praha defeated Czech League opponent, Zabiny Brno, 82-54. Thomas finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win.
Joyner Holmes and Sassari fell just short in the opening round of EuroCup play to La Roche, 79-71, on Wednesday, October 26. Holmes tallied a double-double with 18 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and three blocks in the effort. To close out the week on Sunday, October 30, Holmes and Sassari dropped an Italian League contest to Campobasso in overtime, 59-53. Despite the loss, Holmes led her team with another double-double, finishing with 22 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and six steals.
Nia Clouden and Lublin dropped their first EuroCup contest of the season to Panathinaikos, 51-38. Clouden finished with 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal in the game. Later in the week, Clouden and Lublin fell to Sosnowiec, 79-71, in a Polish League matchup. Clouden tallied 19 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the effort.
On Sunday, October 30, DeWanna Bonner joined Jonquel Jones and CBK Mersin for her first overseas contest of the season. Bonner, J. Jones and CBK Mersin defeated Turkish opponent, Bursa, 92-69. Bonner led CBK Mersin with 17 points, three rebounds, six assists and two steals. J. Jones added nine points, 10 rebounds, six assists and one steal in the victory.
Connecticut Sun players return to off-season play this week starting with Bonner, J. Jones and CBK Mersin taking on Sopron in a EuroLeague matchup at 12:00 P.M. EST; Clouden and Lublin playing Crvena Zvezda in EuroCup competition at 1:00 P.M. EST; and B. Jones, Thomas and USK Prague matching up against Valencia in EuroLeague play at 3:00 P.M. EST on November 2. Holmes and Sassari play EuroCup opponent, ESB Villeneuve, at 3:00 P.M. EST on November 3. Thomas, B. Jones and USK Prague take on Strakonice in Czech League competition on November 4 at 12:45 P.M. EST. Bonner, J. Jones and CBK Mersin face off against Turkish League foe, Bellona Kayseri at 8:00 A.M. EST; and Clouden and Lublin play AZS Poznan at 3:00 P.M. EST on November 5. To finish out the week, Holmes and Sassari take on Faenza at 3:30 P.M. EST on November 6.
