Uncasville, CT (October 24, 2022) – Joyner Holmes and Sassari tipped off overseas play this week on Tuesday, October 18 with a win over Italian League foe, Valdarno, 75-59. Holmes led her squad, notching a double-double with 22 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and one steal. Later in the week, Sassari was victorious against Libertas Moncalieri, 83-59, in an Italian League regular season contest. Holmes finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block.
Nia Clouden and Lublin defeated Torun, 80-68, in a Polish League matchup on Wednesday, October 19. Clouden dropped 18 points, including three three-point field goals. She also tallied three rebounds, six assists and one steal in the win. On Sunday, October 23, Clouden and Lublin picked up a 75-70 victory over Polish League opponent, Polonia Warszawa. The Sun rookie finished with 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Alyssa Thomas and Brionna Jones made their season debuts with USK Prague (Czech Republic) on Saturday, October 22. Thomas, B. Jones and their squad handily defeated Czech League opponent, Hradec Kralove, 111-43. Thomas tallied 13 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and on steal. B. Jones added seven points, six rebounds and one block in the win.
Jonquel Jones also made her first appearance with Turkish club, CBK Mersin, on Saturday, October 22. J. Jones and CBK Mersin picked up a win over Emlak Konut in a Turkish League matchup, 73-70. J. Jones led her team with a double-double, tallying 26 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and one block in her first game back overseas.
Sun players are back in off-season action beginning with Thomas, B. Jones and USK Prague taking on Szekszard in Week 1 of EuroLeague competition at 1:00 P.M. EST ; Holmes and Sassari playing La Roche in Game 1 of EuroCup play at 2:00 P.M. EST; and J. Jones and CBK Mersin opening up EuroLeague play against Perfumerias Avenida at 2:30 P.M. EST on Wednesday, October 26. On Thursday, October 27, Clouden and Lublin play Panathinaikos in Week 1 of EuroCup competition at 12:00 P.M. EST. B. Jones, Thomas and USK Prague face off against Zabiny Brno in a Czech League contest on Friday, October 28 at 10:30 A.M. EST. To close out the week on Sunday, October 30, J. Jones and CBK Mersin play Bursa in a Turkish League game at 9:00 A.M. EST; Holmes and Sassari take on Italian League opponent, Campobasso at 1:00 P.M. EST; and Clouden and Lublin face of against Sosnowiec at 1:00 P.M. EST in a Polish league matchup.
