Connecticut Sun at Dallas Wings Post Game Notes 8-24-22

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Connecticut Sun defeated the Dallas Wings, 73-58, in game three of the first round of the WNBA playoffs. With the win, the Sun advance to their fourth straight WNBA Semifinal series.
- DeWanna Bonner led Connecticut with 21 points, five rebounds, five assists and one block in the win.
- Marina Mabrey finished with 20 points, two rebound and one assist to lead Dallas in the effort.
- With 10 rebounds in the game, Jonquel Jones moved into second place all-time in post season rebounds in Sun history. She now has 171 rebounds in 17 playoff contests.

- The Sun cut the Wing’s lead to two, 26-24, with 5:29 left in the half. Natisha Hiedeman paced Connecticut in the opening five minutes of the second quarter with six points on two triples.
- Connecticut outscored Dallas, 19-15, to tie the game at 34-34 heading into the break. Bonner finished the first half with 11 points, two rebounds and one assist. Mabrey led the Wings with 12 points and one assist through twenty minutes.
- The Sun shot 12-37 (32.4%) from the field, while the Wings were 14-28 (50%) from the floor through the first two quarters.
- Connecticut outscored Dallas in second-chance points (11-0) and fast break points (6-3), while Dallas had the edge in the paint (20-16) and off the bench (8-5) in the first half.
- The Sun opened the second half on an 8-4 run to take their biggest lead thus far, 42-38, with 6:22 to go in the third quarter. Alyssa Thomas had four of Connecticut’s eight points in that stretch out of the locker room.
- Connecticut led Dallas, 57-46, after three quarters of action. The Sun outscored the Wings, 23-12, in the ten-minute stretch out of the halftime break.
- Thomas and Brionna Jones had six points apiece in the third quarter to lead the Sun.
- Connecticut opened the fourth quarter on a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 17, 63-46. Dallas responded on a 4-2 run of their own, to cut Connecticut’s lead to 15, 65-60, with 5:37 remaining in the game.
- Only giving up six field goals in the second half, the Sun’s defensive intensity led them to a 73-58 victory.
- Thomas finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win. Jones and Hiedeman each added 11 points.
- Connecticut outscored Dallas in the paint (42-24), in second-chance points (20-4), in fast break points (14-5) and in bench points (15-14).
NEXT GAME
The Connecticut Sun head to the windy city to take on the No. 2 seeded Chicago Sky, on August 28 at 8 PM EST at Wintrust Arena. The series will be a rematch of the 2021 WNBA Semifinals between the Sun and the Sky. The Sky won the 2021 playoff series 3-1 and went 4-0 against the Sun during the 2022 regular season. Connecticut will look to avenge those losses and move onto their first WNBA Finals series since 2019, in the best of five series.
