Sun Acquire Bria Holmes

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (April 12, 2018) — The Connecticut Sun announced today it has acquired guard Bria Holmes from the Atlanta Dream for the No. 15 pick in tonight’s WNBA Draft and Connecticut’s second round selection in 2019.

Holmes will miss the 2018 WNBA season due to pregnancy.

Selected 11th overall in the 2016 WNBA Draft by the Dream, the 6-foot-1 Holmes averaged 7.6 points and 2.7 assists in 65 games over her first two professional seasons. In 2017, she started 13 games and had a season-best 17 points at Indiana on June 15th. As a rookie in 2016, Holmes averaged 15.5 points per game in the playoffs, including 21 points in a win over Seattle on September 21st.

“We are ecstatic about the opportunity to acquire Bria Holmes from Atlanta and look forward to her return for the 2019 season,” Sun head coach and general manager Curt Miller said. “Bria is an outstanding wing who will thrive in our up-tempo offensive system. She has great length and has already proven to be a disruptive defender at the WNBA level.  It is exciting to bring Bria back to the state of Connecticut where she enjoyed great success in high school.”

A native of New Haven, where she won three consecutive state titles at Hillhouse High School, Holmes was a unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selection in each of her final three seasons at West Virginia. She wrapped up her collegiate career ranked third in Mountaineer history with 2,001 points and 731 made field goals. She was just the second player in program history to earn All-Conference First Team honors in three straight years and the first with 500 or more points in three consecutive seasons.

The Sun tip off the 2018 regular season on Sunday, May 20th at 1 p.m. against the Las Vegas Aces at Mohegan Sun Arena. Season tickets for 2018 start as low as $22 per game and are available now.
