Stricklen Ties Record As Sun Roll Over Wings

Arlington, Texas — Shekinna Stricklen tied a WNBA record with eight made threes on 11 attempts and the Connecticut Sun rolled to a 92-75 win over the Dallas Wings at College Park Center on Sunday.

Stricklen broke the franchise record of seven made threes that she shared with Nykesha Sales while helping the Sun (13-12) snap a two-game losing streak. She is now tied with Diana Taurasi, who has three games with eight made threes, and Riquna Williams, who did it once.

Courtney Williams (15 points, seven rebounds, four assists), Jonquel Jones (15 points), Jasmine Thomas (11 points, season-high nine assists) and Chiney Ogwumike (10 points, five rebounds) also scored in double figures while Alyssa Thomas (nine points, eight rebounds, six assists) contributed across the board.

Liz Cambage (25 points, 10 rebounds) led the Wings (14-11) while Kayla Thornton (11 points) and Glory Johnson (11 points, six rebounds) scored in double figures. But Dallas, which led the WNBA in scoring (88.5 ppg.) coming into the game, was held to 13.5 points below its average.

Connecticut connected on 37 made field goals on 23 assists, shooting 50 percent from the field (37-of-74) with 10 made threes.

The Sun took control of the game in the first quarter, and never trailed after using a 10-3 run to close out the first quarter its a 29-20 lead. The Sun led by 12 on four different occasions in the second quarter before the Wings pulled within 44-38 at halftime.

Dallas got as close as two in the third quarter, but a Stricklen three helped spark a run and the Sun led 69-57 after three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, the Sun were up 78-62 with 6:08 remaining following a Stricklen three-pointer. Dallas mounted its last challenge, using a 9-0 run to pull within 78-71 with 3:52 left. But the Sun came out of a timeout and used a 14-4 run to put the game away.

The Sun return home to host the Washington Mystics in the final game before the WNBA All-Star break on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
