Sun Top Dallas To Close Out Preseason

Arlington, Tex – The Connecticut Sun rallied from a slow start to edge the Dallas Wings 82-74 at College Park Center, completing an undefeated preseason under first-year coach Curt Miller.

Trailing 18-6 after the first quarter, the Sun shot 50.9 percent from the field (28-of-55) over the last three quarters , finishing the game 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) from three-point range.

Veterans Shekinna Stricklen and Alex Bentley each had two three-pointers as did rookies Jonquel Jones and Rachel Banham. Kelsey Bone, Jasmine Thomas and Jamie Weisner also hit a three.

The made threes helped offset a massive free throw deficit. Dallas was 28 of 35 from the line while the Sun were 11 of 15. Connecticut was whistled for 32 fouls.

“We got off to a sluggish start but credit the team for fighting back,” Miller said. “We fouled like crazy tonight. We have to clean that up.”

Jones led the way with 16 points, and also had five rebounds and four blocks. Bone chipped in with 11 points while Banham had a team-high seven assists.

The Sun are now off until May 14th, when they open the season at Chicago.
