Sun Host Liberty in Rematch on Sunday
Uncasville, CT: The Connecticut Sun (5-21) host the New York Liberty (17-10) for the second time in three days on Sunday, August 3 at 1:00 PM ET at Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will air locally on NBC Sports Boston with Brendan Glasheen, Meghan McKeown and Terrika Foster-Brasby on the call. It will also be available to stream on WNBA League Pass.
On Friday night, the Sun defeated the Liberty, 78-62, at home at Mohegan Sun Arena. The win marked the Sun’s first home win against the Liberty since July 19, 2022. Marina Mabrey finished two assists shy of a triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds, season-high tying eight assists, and two steals. The double-double marked her fourth career double-double during regular season play and second of the 2025 season. Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Leila Lacan both scored 16 points off of 6/8 shooting in the victory coming off the bench in the game.
The Sun scored 14 points off a Liberty season-high 21 turnovers and ended the night with 11 steals. Additionally, the Sun outrebounded the Liberty 42-29 and totaled five blocked shots on the evening. Connecticut’s 42 rebounds and 13 offensive rebounds marked new season highs. Connecticut enters Sunday’s meeting with an all-time regular season record of 50-49 with the New York Liberty, including a 29-21 record when playing at home.
The defending WNBA champs were led by Sabrina Ionescu in Friday’s match up. She finished with 23 points, while former Sun forward Jonquel Jones rounded out their double-digit scorers with 14 points. Head Coach Sandy Brondello enters her fourth season at the helm in New York, posting a regular season record of 97-46.
