Connecticut Faces New York on Friday Night
Uncasville, CT: The Connecticut Sun (4-21) are back in action on Friday night, for their first of two meetings this weekend with the New York Liberty (17-9) at 7:30 PM ET at Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will air nationally on ION with Brendan Glasheen, Ashley Battle, and Terrika Foster-Brasby on the call. It will also be available to stream on WNBA League Pass.
The Sun fell to the Seattle Storm, 101-85, in their last time out on Monday, July 28 at home in Uncasville. Four Sun players finished in double digits with Bria Hartley leading the team with 17 points, one rebound and four assists. It marked her fifth straight outing with 10+ points and 10th of the season. Tina Charles notched 11 points, four rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes of action. With two assists, she eclipsed 1,000 assists in her storied WNBA career. She is now the only player in WNBA history with at least 8,000 points, 4,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists. Jacy Sheldon contributed 11 points and Olivia Nelson-Ododa rounded out the Sun’s double-digit scorers with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists, a career-high-tying three steals and the team’s only two blocks in 24 minutes off the bench.
Last time out against the Liberty on June 1, 2025, the Sun fell 100-52, on the road in Brooklyn. Tina Charles and Jacy Sheldon each had 10 points to lead the Sun in scoring in the game. Marina Mabrey and Aneesah Morrow each added eight points. Morrow’s eight points marked a new season and career-high for the rookie at that time. The Sun enter Friday’s match up with the Liberty with an all-time regular season record of 49-49, including a 28-21 record when playing at home. The Sun will look for their first win against the Liberty at home since July 19, 2022.
The Liberty enter Friday’s contest on a three-game skid, most recently falling to the Minnesota Lynx, 100-93, on Wednesday night in Minneapolis. All-Star guard Sabrina Ionescu led New York in the effort with 31 points, five rebounds and four assists, while forward Isabelle Harrison added 15 points in 17 minutes off the bench.
