Uncasville, CT (January 3, 2022) – Holiday overseas play was punctuated with an abundance of wins for Connecticut Sun players. Jasmine Thomas and her CBK Mersin squad beat Turkish League opponent Besiktas, 87-68. Thomas had 23 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Stephanie Jones and Gorzow had a strong week. They played Polish League adversary GTK Gdynia, winning 76-61. Jones contributed 21 points, 13 rebounds, one assist and three blocks in the effort. Gorzow then handily beat eighth-ranked Polonia, 112-82. Jones had huge game, leading her team in scoring with 30 points, three rebounds, one assist, one steal and three blocks.
Dijonai Carrington and Elitzur Tel Aviv matched up against second-ranked Israeli League opponent, Hapoel Rishon LeZion, losing 102-74. However, Carrington closed out 2021 with an impressive performance, recording 31 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Beatrice Mompremier and her third-ranked Uni Gyor squad opened up their 2022 campaign with a win against Hungarian league adversary BKG Prima, 90-64. Mompremier had 13 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one steal and a block in the effort.
Briann January and her Sopron Basket team started their year with a win over Hungarian League opponent MTK Budapest, 88-55. January had eight points, one rebound, seven assists and a steal on the night. Sopron remains atop the Hungarian League standings with a perfect 14-0 record.
Connecticut Sun players return to action this week, starting with Carrington playing today. J. Thomas and CBK Mersin playing in Game 2 of EuroCup playoffs against Lointek Gernika at 10:00 A.M. EST on January 4. J. Thomas, Jonquel Jones, Mompremier, Natisha Hiedeman, Kaila Charles, and January will play on January 5. Brionna Jones and Alyssa Thomas will play January 7, and S. Jones will play January 8. Two Connecticut Sun players will go head-to-head as Mompremier and her Uni Gyor team will match up against January and her Sopron Basket team in a Hungarian League game on January 8. J. Jones will round out the week’s games on January 9.
