Mompremier signs with Connecticut

UNCASVILLE, CT – (January 11, 2021) – The Connecticut Sun announced today Beatrice Mompremier has accepted and signed the qualifying offer extended by Curt Miller, head coach and general manager.

“Beatrice was a fantastic addition and showed impactful moments throughout her rookie season,” Miller said. “She immediately helped us with rim protection and rebounding at both ends of the court. She has a bright future and we are excited to watch her growth in 2021”.

Mompremier made an immediate impact on the Sun’s rebounding efforts during the 2020 season. The 6-4 forward concluded her rookie campaign fifth in the league in rebounds per game (3.3) among fellow newcomers. Not only did she rank in the top five in the league, she finished first on the team in rebounds off the bench and fourth on the team overall. In 21 regular season competitions for the Sun, Mompremier averaged 8.9 minutes per game in which she posted 2.3 points per game, 3.3 rebounds per game, 1.8 of which were defensive and 1.5 which were offensive.

The University of Miami graduate, garnered a career-high 16 rebounds against the Las Vegas Aces (9/3) after tallying 10 rebounds in the first half. Not only did Mompremier lead the team in rebounds she also scored six points and blocked four shots. Her 16 rebounds is tied as the 3rd largest total by a player off the bench in WNBA history and is also a new record for a Sun player off the bench.

Appearing in all seven of the team’s postseason competitions, Mompremier averaged 3.6 total rebounds per game as well as 2.7 defensive rebounds per game, ranking her fourth on the team in both categories. She also contributed 1.7 points per contest in 12.3 minutes of action per game. Her postseason career-high rebounds came against Las Vegas, yet again. In game two of the semifinals against the Aces on Sep. 22, Mompremier grabbed nine rebounds, eight of which were defensive. She also scored six points, added one assist, one steal and three blocks.

Originally drafted 20th overall in the 2020 WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks, Mompremier was later waived due to the WNBA’s roster finalization deadline. The Connecticut Sun then signed the free-agent on June 23 ahead of the season in sight.
