Jonquel Jones Named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week

Uncasville, CT (June 6, 2022) – Connecticut Sun forward and 2021 WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones was named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, the league announced today. This marks the twelfth time in Jones’ five-year career that she takes home Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors, the first since September of the 2021 season.

 

During the week of May 30-June 5, Jones averaged 19.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks in 29.4 minutes per game, as the Sun went 3-1 in regular season action. She started in all four games and led the Sun in scoring in their 93-86 win over the Seattle Storm on Sunday with 25 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and one block.

 

To begin the week, in Connecticut’s 89-81 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday, Jones had eight points, 13 rebounds, one assist and three blocks. Jones got her revenge during Connecticut’s second matchup with the Aces in three days, with 20 points, seven rebounds, one assist and two steals, leading the team to a 97-90 win. Jones kept the momentum going the following day with 24 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal, as the Sun beat the Phoenix Mercury, 92-88, on Friday night.

 

Through twelve games in the 2022 regular season, Jones leads Connecticut in scoring (15.6 ppg) and blocks (1.0) per game, and is second on the team in rebounds per game (8.3).
