GAME PREVIEW: Sun Host Sparks in First Matchup of 2024

Uncasville, CT The Connecticut Sun (12-1) will host the Los Angeles Sparks (4-10) on Tuesday, June 18 at 7:00 PM ET at Mohegan Sun Arena. Tuesday night’s showdown will be the teams’ first meeting during the 2024 season. The game will air on NBC Sports Boston and NBA TV, while also streaming live on WNBA League Pass.

Last time out on Saturday afternoon, the Connecticut Sun defeated the Dallas Wings, 85-67, on the road in Arlington, TX. Five Sun players finished in double digit scoring, with Rachel Banham leading the way with 16 points, three rebounds, two assists and one block in 17 minutes of action off the bench. Alyssa Thomas added 13 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, as Connecticut stayed undefeated on the road at 5-0.

As of games through June 16, Sun forward Alyssa Thomas is first in assists per game (8.2) and fifth in rebounds per game (10.0) across the league. She has also posted six double-doubles in 2024, good for fifth best in the WNBA. Brionna Jones is second in FG% in the WNBA, shooting 57.1% from the floor (behind New York Liberty’s Jonquel Jones- 58.7%). As a team, the Sun are leading the league in net rating (13.2) and defensive rating (90.7) and are also fourth in the WNBA in steals per game (8.3), third in field goal percentage (44.0%), fourth in offensive rating (103.9) and second in second chance points per game (13.5).

The Sun have won nine straight regular contests against the Sparks dating back to the 2020 season. Los Angeles enters Tuesday night’s game coming off an 87-74 loss to the Atlanta Dream on Sunday. Rookie forwards Rickea Jackson and Cameron Brink each tallied 16 points in the effort. Head Coach Curt Miller is currently in his second season with the Sparks, after serving as the Sun’s Head Coach for seven seasons (2016-2022). He is 21-33 all-time with Los Angeles, including 0-3 against Connecticut.
