Game Notes
- The Connecticut Sun (16-6) defeated the Minnesota Lynx (13-8), 72-60, which snapped Minnesota’s eight-game win streak. The Sun are now 9-1 at Mohegan Sun Arena and hold the best home record in the league.
- Tonight’s game was the 750th regular season game in Connecticut Sun franchise history and the 10th time this season that Connecticut held their opponents under 70 points.
- The starting five of DeWanna Bonner, Jonquel Jones, Brionna Jones, Briann January and Jasmine Thomas are now 6-2 on the season.
- Connecticut outscored Minnesota, 27-14, in the first quarter, which was their largest first quarter lead this season.
- Minnesota came out in the second quarter and scored a quick seven points to cut Connecticut’s 13-point lead to eight. Guard Briann January scored five straight baskets which helped the Sun go on an 11-0 run over the Lynx. Connecticut concluded the quarter with a 14-point lead. Connecticut is now 13-3 when leading at the half.
- The Lynx came out of the halftime break and went on a 10-3 run to cut their deficit to seven. However, it was the duo of Bonner and J. Jones who helped excel the Sun to a 17 point lead to end the third.
- Minnesota finished out the game on a 14-10 run, eight of which came from Rachel Banham. The former Sun guard netted all eight of her points in that fourth quarter.
- Four Connecticut Sun players scored in double-figures for the second straight game this season. J. Thomas led the way for the Sun, finishing with 19 points, two points shy of her season high.
- Connecticut Sun forward Jonquel Jones has reached 2,000 career points, finishing the night with 17. Jones earned her 12th double-double this season and 51st of her career.
- J. Thomas moves ahead of teammate Alyssa Thomas (2352), to become fifth overall on the Connecticut Sun all-time points list (2371). J. Thomas also moves past Danielle Robinson to become 16th all-time in WNBA history for assists.
- Sylvia Fowles, who ranks second in the league for rebounds per game (9.9) was kept to just five total rebounds.
- Napheesa Collier who averages 17.3 points per game, currently 10th in the league, was also kept below her per game average. Collier finished with six points.
- The Sun scored 14 points off turnovers compared to Minnesota’s 11. Thirty of Connecticut’s total points came from the paint.
- Fowles led the Lynx with 14 points and shot 7-of-10 from the field. Kayla McBride followed with 12 points and was the only Lynx player to make it to the freethrow line (5-7).
