Game Notes:
- For the first time this season, Connecticut (25-6) had six players score in double digits as team scored a new season high in the 98-69 victory over New York (11-20). The Sun reached a new franchise win streak at 13 and the longest win streak in the league since 2016 set by the Minnesota Lynx (5/14/2016- 6/21/16). Connecticut is now 14-1 at home on the season and held their opponents to 70 points or less for the 17th time this season.
- New York started out the game on a 16-5 run and outscored Connecticut, 20-14, in the first quarter. Natasha Howard finished with 10 first quarter points for the Liberty.
- Connecticut outscored New York 30-27, in the second. However, it was New York who took the 47-44 lead going into the half. The Sun are now 5-3 when trailing at the half. The first half of play had seven lead changes and was tied three times
- DeWanna Bonner and Jonquel Jones led the Sun to a new season quarter high as they outscored the Liberty, 33-13 in the third quarter. Bonner earned 11 of her 18 total points and J. Jones added 10 of her 18 points
- Connecticut extended their lead to as large as 31, as they outscored New York 21-9 in the fourth quarter. This was the second time this season Connecticut held New York to just nine points in a quarter, the last time happening on July 11.
- J. Jones earned her 17th season and 56th overall double-double to tie Brittney Griner with 56 career double-doubles, which is 18th overall in WNBA history. J. Jones has earned a double-double in 65% of her games this season and is top in the league this year. The last player to do this was Tina Charles back in 2011 as she earned 23 in 34 games played (67.6%)
- The Connecticut Sun bench scored a new season high 36 points in tonight’s contest. DiJonai Carrington led the way for the bench as she netted a new career and season-high record in points, finishing with 14 and five rebounds. Natisha Hiedeman shot 3-5 from behind the arc, adding 11 points and five assists. Beatrice Mompremier has reached 100 career points as she ended with four.
- Alyssa Thomas made her season debut for the Sun after missing the first 30 games recovering from an achilles injury back in January. A. Thomas came off the bench with six points and three rebounds
- Brionna Jones reached her 100th career steal as she added 13 points, one steal, seven rebounds and three assists.
- Jasmine Thomas moved up to 43 overall on the WNBA all-time steals list past Monique Currie (378) as she now has 381. J. Thomas collected 10 points, three steals and two assists on the night.
- DeWanna Bonner passed Lauren Jackson to become 15th overall on the WNBA all-time rebounds list. Bonner also reached 1,500 career free-throws made and became just the fourth player in WNBA history to do so (Taurasi, Catchings, McCoughtry). She also recorded four assists which allowed her to pass both Noelle Quinn (878) and Taj McWilliams-Franklin (879) to become 45th overall on the WNBA all-time list for assists
- Natasha Howard led both teams in scoring as she had 25 points and eight rebounds. Michaela Onyenwere came off the bench adding 14.
- Betnijah Laney was held below her average (17.3 points) as she finished the night with seven, going 3-7 from the field.
- New York had 28 turnovers, making them the third team in WNBA history to have multiple games with 28+ turnovers in a season. Connecticut earned 23 points off turnovers.
- The Sun had 44 points in the paint and 17 of their points came off second chance opportunities.
- Connecticut outrebounded the Liberty 38-21, 25 of which came defensively. The Sun earned a new season high, finishing with 14 steals.
