GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Connecticut Sun defeated the Chicago Sky in Game 4 of the WNBA Semifinals, 104- 80. The Sun’s 104 points sets a new franchise record for points in a postseason contest.
  • The Sun scored a WNBA postseason record 66 points in the paint, outscoring the Sky by 32 points down low (66-34).
  • Connecticut shot 56.9% (41-72) from the field, which sets a franchise record for highest field goal percentage in a postseason contest.
  • DeWanna Bonner and Courtney Williams each tallied 19 points to lead Connecticut in the win.
  • Kahleah Copper tallied 16 points and two rebound to lead Chicago in the effort.
  • With 19 points in tonight’s victory, Bonner moved passed Seimone Augustus into seventh all-time in post season scoring in WNBA history. Her six boards also moved her passed Taj McWilliams-Franklin into fifth all-time in postseason rebounding in league history.
  • The Sun opened the contest on a 10-2 run, forcing the Sky to call an early timeout with 7:42 in the quarter. Alyssa Thomas led Connecticut with an early five points, two rebounds and one assist.
  • Connecticut led Chicago, 24-13, with 3:29 remaining in the first quarter. Thomas had nine points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal to lead the Sun.
  • The Sun took a 30-22 advantage of the Sky after ten minutes of action. Thomas led all scorers with 11 points, along with six rebounds, two assists and one steal.
  • Connecticut went 52.6% (10-19) from the field after one quarter, along with 90% (9-10) from the free throw line.
  • Chicago opened the second quarter edging Connecticut, 11-10, but Connecticut held a 40-33 lead with 5:28 remaining in the half. Jonquel Jones had four of the Sun’s ten points in that stretch.
  • The Sun went on 10-2 run out of the first media timeout of the second quarter, pushing their lead back up to 13, with 2:49 to go in the half. Courtney Williams and DeWanna Bonner each nailed a triple on that run.
  • Connecticut took their largest lead of the game into the locker room at the break, 58-41. Thomas led the Sun with 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal. Kahleah Copper, Emma Meesseman and Courtney Vandersloot each had eight points to lead the Sky.
  • The Sun shot 22-37 (59.5%) from the floor, while the Sky were 17-34 (50%) from the field in the first half.
  • Connecticut outscored Chicago in the paint (38-22), in second chance points (11-0), on the fast break (9-7) and bench points (16-8) through twenty minutes.
  • The Sun opened the second half outscoring the Sky, 12-11, to take a 70-52 lead with 3:51 to go in the third quarter. Williams had eight of Connecticut’s 12 points in that opening stretch out of the locker room.
  • Connecticut outscored Chicago, 25-20, in the third quarter to take an 83-61 lead into the fourth. Williams had ten points, one rebound and one assist in the quarter to lead the Sun out of the locker room.
  • The Sun led the Sky, 89-64, with 7:20 remaining in the contest. Brionna Jones, Odyssey Sims and Joyner Holmes each had baskets in the opening minutes of the fourth.
  • Connecticut outscored Chicago, 21-19, in the fourth quarter to seal the 104-80 victory.

The Connecticut Sun head back to Chicago to take on the Sky in Game 5 of the WNBA Semifinals on September 8 at 8:00 PM ET at Wintrust Arena. The best-of-five series is currently tied 2-2, making Thursday’s contest a must-win for the Sun to move onto the WNBA Finals.
