Connecticut Sun Announce 2022 Schedule

Uncasville, CT (December 9, 2021) – Per the WNBA, the 2022 regular season schedule was announced today. The schedule will entail 36 games–two more than last season–with 18 games on the road and 18 at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Connecticut Sun will celebrate their 20th Anniversary as a franchise in 2022, and with that comes a plethora of events and fun theme nights to celebrate the momentous occasion.

The Connecticut Sun kick off the 2022 season on the road versus the New York Liberty at Barclays Center on Saturday, May 7 at 6:00 P.M. Four days later, the team’s home opener and 20th Anniversary celebration will take place on Saturday, May 14 against the Los Angeles Sparks with a 7:00 P.M. tip-off.

The early season start is due to the new WNBA playoff format and the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, which will begin on September 22.

The Sun will revisit the Liberty on May 17, followed by a home and home with the Indiana Fever, meeting them at Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday, May 20 at 7:00 P.M. and then travel to Indiana for a 3:00 P.M. tip-off on May 22. The Sun will then return for a three-game home stint, hosting the Dallas Wings on May 24 and May 26, and the Washington Mystics on May 28. All three home games will begin at 7:00 P.M. The Connecticut Sun will round out the month of May on the road against the Las Vegas Aces on May 31.

The last game in May is part of a four-game road trip that will launch the month of June. The Sun will face Las Vegas a second time on Thursday, June 2; the Phoenix Mercury on June 3; and the Seattle Storm just two days later on Sunday, June 5. Connecticut will then return for a four-game home stretch with contests against Indiana on June 8, the Chicago Sky on June 10, the Atlanta Dream on June 15, and Seattle on June 17, all tipping-off at 7:00 P.M. The Sun will finish out the month with an away game in Washington, D.C. on June 19, a home game against New York on June 22, and two away games in Atlanta and Chicago on June 26 and June 29.

In July, the Sun hit the court with nine games. Connecticut will face Washington at home on Sunday, July 3 and visit Dallas on July 5. The middle of July finds the team on the road at Indiana on July 13, followed by a contest in Atlanta on July 15. The Sun will return to Mohegan Sun Arena for games against Las Vegas and New York on July 17 and July 19, respectively. Connecticut will then match-up against the Minnesota Lynx for the first time in the season with a two-game road trip on July 22 and July 24. The Sun will end the month with two home games versus Seattle and Chicago on July 28 and July 31.

The month of August will see the least amount of regular season games with six scheduled match-ups. To start the month, Connecticut will host Phoenix at home on both August 2 and August 4. The team will then embark on a three-game road trip in Chicago on August 7 and in Los Angeles on August 9 and August 11. The team returns home for their final game of the regular season versus Minnesota on August 14 at 1:00 P.M.

An important change to highlight is the WNBA’s new playoff format. The postseason structure has been reconfigured to include three rounds of series-play, using a best of 3-5-5 format. The eight teams with the highest winning percentages over the 36-game schedule will qualify for the playoffs, regardless of conference, and will be seeded based on their record. All eight playoff teams will participate in a first-round, bracket-style configuration, consisting of four best-of-three series.

The Connecticut Sun will have a slew of theme nights during their home games at Mohegan Sun Arena. A few include the Connecticut Sun 20th Anniversary Celebration on May 14 against the Los Angeles Sparks; PRIDE on June 10 against the Chicago Sky; the Connecticut Sun’s Change Can’t Wait and 50th Anniversary of Title IX celebration on June 22 against New York; Camp Day on July 19 against the Liberty; the Connecticut Sun’s Women of Inspiration celebration on August 4 against the Phoenix Mercury; and Fan Appreciation Night on August 14 against the Minnesota Lynx.
