Alyssa Thomas Named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week

Uncasville, CT (May 23, 2022) – Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas was named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, the league announced today. This marks the fifth time in Thomas’s eight-year professional career that she takes home Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors, the first since August of the 2020 season.

During the week of May 16-22, Thomas averaged 15.7ppg, 6.3 rpg and 3.0 spg as the Sun went 3-0 in regular season action. She started in all three games and led the Sun in scoring in their decisive 92-70 win over Indiana on Sunday with 18 points, while also notching six rebounds, six assists and two steals.

In the Sun’s 92-65 win against the New York Liberty on Tuesday, Thomas tallied 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals, all while helping Connecticut force a franchise record 32 turnovers. Later in the week against Indiana on Friday, Thomas finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block in a 94-85 Sun victory at home and their first Commissioner’s Cup win of the season.

Thomas returns to the Connecticut Sun this season after missing all but six games of the 2021 campaign recovering from an Achilles injury. Through five games in 2022, she has led Connecticut in scoring (19.0), assists (3.8), steals (2.8) and minutes played (31.5). At the time of this release, Thomas is currently fourth in the WNBA in points per game (19.0), second in steals per game (2.8) and fourth in field goal percentage (60.7).

Thomas and the Sun return to action Tuesday night against the Dallas Wings at 7:00 PM EST at Mohegan Sun Arena, where they look to extend their current win streak to five.
