Sun Open Preseason Action on Sunday in Seattle
Seattle, WA: The Connecticut Sun head west to take on the Seattle Storm in their first preseason matchup of the 2025 season on Sunday, May 4 at 6:00 PM ET/3:00 PM PT at Climate Pledge Arena. This will be the Sun’s first test under the organization’s new Head Coach, Rachid Meziane and a chance for the new faces of Connecticut’s roster to gel on the court in a game setting. The game will be available to stream live on WNBA League Pass.
Connecticut dropped the 2024 regular season series to the Storm, 1-2 but have won seven of the last nine matchups against Seattle dating back to the 2022 season. The last time these two teams faced each other in a preseason game was back on May 8, 2007, when the Storm defeated the Sun, 63-55, in Connecticut. Dating back to the 2015 season, the Sun are 17-3 in preseason contests. The team has also won eight of their last ten preseasons games.
Sharp-shooter and six-year pro Marina Mabrey and fourth-year center Olivia Nelson-Ododa highlight the returners from the Sun’s 2024 roster, while the team welcomes many new additions ahead of the 2025 WNBA season, including the return of eight-time WNBA All-Star and former No. 1 overall WNBA Draft pick Tina Charles, who re-signed with the team as a free agent in February. Additionally, WNBA veteran guards Lindsay Allen and Diamond DeShields and second-year point-guard Jacy Sheldon are all on track to make their debuts in a Sun uniform this season.
Connecticut enjoyed a successful WNBA Draft ahead of the 2025 season, as it marked the first time the team held multiple first round draft picks since the 2016 WNBA Draft. The No. 7 overall pick also marked the Sun’s highest draft position since 2016. With their picks, the Sun selected 6-1 forward Aneesah Morrow out of Louisiana State University (No. 7), 6-1 guard Saniya Rivers out of North Carolina State University (No. 8) and 6-4 forward Rayah Marshall out of the University of Southern California (No. 25).
The Storm welcomes back many key pieces from their 2024 roster including nine-time WNBA All-Star forward Nneka Ogwumike, veteran point-guard Skylar Diggins and dynamic forward Gabby Williams. Seattle also picked up new additions during the 2025 free agency period including forwards Alysha Clark and Katie Lou-Samuelson, guards Erica Wheeler, Lexie Brown and Zia Cooke, and center Li Yueru. Head Coach Noelle Quinn enters her fifth season at the helm of the Storm, posting a regular season record of 74-68.
