SCRIP, Inc. has been named the Connecticut Sun’s “Change Can’t Wait” Business of the Month this February. SCRIP, which stands for Second Chance Re-Entry Initiative Program, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose aim is to help marginalized individuals navigate the constraints and obstacles that society presents, in order to improve their lives and help them achieve success in their career endeavors.

SCRIP is honored for being acknowledged the business of the month, especially in the month of February,” said Edward Andrews, President, CEO and Founder of SCRIP. “However, all praises due to God alone, and I also give thanks for those who aided and supported me still to this day. Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and Hispanic Federation, to name a few. My team and I are committed to establishing a platform that bridges the gap for my population/culture in navigating and overcoming the constraints in many of our communities. There is still a lot more of what SCRIP set out to accomplish one day at a time and continuing to identify resources for trauma-intervention, housing and employment opportunities.”

SCRIP’s founder, Edward L. Andrews, B.S., is a sociologist, author, lecturer, and Urban Trauma specialist. Fueled by personal experiences growing up in the projects in Brooklyn, NY, and with the criminal justice system, he founded SCRIP to equip marginalized individuals with the requisite skills necessary to overcome their barriers to success and compete in today’s economy. SCRIP has five programs–ASCEND, the Urban Male Initiative, SCRIP Clothing Drive, SCRIP Reprise, and SCRIP CORE–dedicated to helping the programs’ participants and their communities.

By partnering with local and national social service agencies, community development programs, and employment agencies to provide comprehensive services for their participants, SCRIP’s mission is to raise awareness of the traumatic experiences of individuals in urban communities that are often overlooked and to help those individuals transcend the onerous realities of incarceration, homelessness, unemployment and racial injustices. By helping their participants understand how their pasts have influenced their present, identify their strengths, and rediscover who they are through valuing their inner worth, SCRIP’s uniquely tailored programs help individuals reach their full potential, transition into the workforce, support their families, and bring healing into their communities.

“Having SCRIP as our February Business of the Month during Black History Month was extremely important to us. Edward has an incredible story, but what’s even more incredible is the work he is doing in the community. SCRIP is a perfect reminder that no matter what happens in your life, you can make change for others.” – Morgan Tuck, Director of Franchise Development
