GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Connecticut Sun defeated the Seattle Storm, 93-86. It was the Sun’s third win in four days, as they complete their west coast road trip 3-1.
  • The Sun victory snaps a five-game losing streak against the Storm, dating back to the 2019 season.
  • Connecticut moves to 9-3 and Seattle falls to 5-5 on the year.
  • Jonquel Jones led Connecticut with a season-high 25 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and one block.
  • Ezi Magbegor finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks to lead Seattle.
  • With two assists in the game, DeWanna Bonner eclipsed 900 assists in her WNBA career. She now has 901 assists in 12 seasons in the league.
  • Alyssa Thomas finished with a career high 12 assists in tonight’s win. She notched the first assist and rebound double-double in franchise history, with 11 rebounds on the night.
  • The Storm jumped out to an early 15-7 lead headed into the first media timeout on the game. Bonner led Connecticut with three points in that opening stretch. Seattle’s Magbegor had eight points in the opening five minutes.
  • Connecticut trailed Seattle, 26-20, after the first quarter of action. Brionna Jones led the Sun with eight points. DiJonai Carrington added five points in five minutes off the bench.
  • Seven of the Storm’s 26 first quarter points came off of the Sun’s five first quarter turnovers.
  • Seattle took a 34-26 lead into the first media timeout in the second, outscoring Connecticut 8-6 in the first four minutes of the second quarter.
  • After being down 41-28, the Sun went on a 10-0 to cut the Storm’s lead to 3 with 1:30 left in the first.
  • Connecticut finished the second quarter on a 14-2 run, but trailed Seattle by one at the half, 43-42.
  • Jones led the Sun with 14 points, two rebounds and one assist at the break. She went a perfect 4-4 from the field and 6-6 from the foul line in the first two quarters of action.
  • Magbegor finished the half with 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal to lead the Storm.
  • Connecticut shot 16-28 (57.1%) from the floor, while Seattle was 19-36 (52.8%) from the field in the first half.
  • The Storm outscored the Sun in the paint (24-20), in second-chance points (6-4) and on the fast break (11-6) in the first twenty minutes of play.
  • Tonight, was only the fourth time this season have trailed at the half. With the win, they are now 2-2 when losing at the break.
  • Seattle opened the third quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 53-44 lead, forcing Connecticut to call an early timeout in the second half. Sue Bird nailed two threes for the Storm in that two-minute stretch.
  • The Sun trailed the Storm, 67-61, after three quarters of play. Seattle outscored Connecticut 24-19 in the third quarter.
  • Connecticut opened up the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run, courtesy of two triples from Bonner and Carrington to tie the game at 67 apiece. The Sun continued their run to take a 77-69 lead with 5:59 to go in the game.
  • Connecticut led Seattle 85-76 with 2:32 minutes left in regulation. The Storm went on a 9-2 run to cut the Sun’s lead to four, 87-83, with 1:19 left in the game.
  • The Sun finished strong in the last minute of the game and took home the 93-86 victory.
  • Jones finished with a season-high 21 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals on the night.
  • Carrington added 12 points, there rebounds and one steal in 18 minutes off the bench in tonight’s win. She was a perfect 5-5 from the field, including 2-2 from behind the arc.
  • Bonner had a season-high 21 points, four rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block.

 

NEXT GAME

The Connecticut Sun are back home Wednesday, June 8 to take on the Indiana Fever at 7:00pm EST at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Sun are 2-0 against the Fever this season, most recently defeating them, 92-70, on May 22 in Indianapolis. Connecticut looks to extend their win streak against Indiana at home to seven wins in a row, not losing to the Fever at Mohegan Sun Arena since the 2016 season.
