In honor of Black History Month, the Connecticut Sun is pleased to announce the “Health Equity & Wellness Forum.” The webinar discussion, which will be led by Sun guard DiJonai Carrington, is focusing on this year’s Black History Month theme from the Association for the Study of African American Life and History: Black Health and Wellness. It is important to the Sun that the team and organization does their part to educate fans and raise awareness on the issues many people in this country are facing.
“The community team members we have assembled for this event are all in our cities and neighborhoods, serving our fans when their needs are highest. Their impact will be celebrated next Thursday night,” Carrington shared.
The one-hour virtual panel discussion will be held on Thursday, February 24 at 6:00 P.M. EST via Zoom. Carrington, who graduated from Stanford University with a BA in African American Studies, will lead the forum with the help of three special guests: Patrick L. Green, Thretha Green and Destiny-Jenkins Perkins.
Patrick L. Green, President and CEO of L+M Healthcare and Executive Vice President of Yale New Haven Health, has over 20 years of leadership experience in large, not-for-profit health systems and academic medical centers. He has demonstrated expertise to ensure operational integrity while developing sustainable business models. Before joining Yale New Haven Health, Green was senior executive vice president and chief administrative officer of St. Anthony Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center in Lakewood, CO. He received his bachelor’s from Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma, and an MBA from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Thretha Green, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA), is a psychotherapist, consultant, and proprietor of Healing the Mind & Soul, LLC. She is also a Mobile Crisis Clinician at Wellmore Behavioral Health Clinic.
Destiny-Jenkins Rubins is a senior at the University of New Haven, majoring in International Affairs. They currently serve as the school’s President of the NAACP College Chapter. In their time at the university, they have been a sustainability liaison formulating conversations on campus towards sustainable, green practices. As president of the NAACP College Chapter, they address campus-wide, social and political issues as well as educate, empower and unite the next generation of student leaders. In addition to their work with the NAACP, they also serve as a Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion ambassador for their college (Henry C. Lee College of Forensic Science) fostering an inclusive campus community.
