Sun fall to 13-2 on the Season

Las Vegas, NV (June 21, 2024) – Tonight, the Connecticut Sun (13-2) fell to the Las Vegas Aces (7-6), 85-74. The Sun suffer their first away game loss of the season, moving to 5-1 on the road.

DiJonai Carrington led Connecticut with 19 points, six rebounds, and two steals. A’ja Wilson led all scorers with 26 points, accompanied by 16 rebounds, one assist, two steals and two blocks.

The Sun got off to a solid start, forcing the Aces’ first timeout with a 4-point lead. The Sun played through the post, with Brionna Jones accounting for Connecticut’s first six points off three assists from Alyssa Thomas. The Aces responded out of their timeout, outscoring the Sun by eight, to end the quarter 20-16. Jones led all scorers in the opening frame with 11 points, and Thomas had four assists.

Sharp shooting from Las Vegas to open the second quarter forced a quick Connecticut timeout. The Aces continued to apply pressure from the three-point line, behind two triples from Kelsey Plum and a third from Alysha Clark to increase the Aces’ lead to 10 points, forcing another Sun timeout. Las Vegas closed the half on a 17-5 run over the last 5:39 of the half, ending the frame 45-28.

The Sun surged back early in the third, behind nine points from DiJonai Carrington, bringing the Sun back within 11 points to force a Las Vegas timeout with 5:25 left in the third. A 6-2 run from Connecticut in less than a minute and 22 seconds forced a second Vegas timeout, with 4:03 left in the third frame. Both teams traded baskets to finish the quarter, 63-50. Carrington led Connecticut in scoring with 11 points in the third (15 points overall).

The Sun continued to struggle in the fourth, enduring a 9-4 Aces run out of the quarter break to force a Connecticut timeout with 6:37 to go. The Sun bench gave Connecticut some life in the last 3:25 of the game, behind a season-high seven points from Astou Ndour-Fall off 100% shooting from the floor. Unfortunately, the fourth quarter surge was not enough to withstand the Aces, the game ending with a score of 85-74.

The Sun shot 42.6% from the floor, while the Aces went 47.7% on the day. The Aces won the battle in bench point (22-16), points in the paint (44-30), rebounds (42-28), and points off turnovers (15-12).
