Connecticut Sun Clinch 2023 Playoff Berth

Uncasville, CT (August 20, 2023) – The Connecticut Sun clinched a berth in the 2023 WNBA Playoffs with a Washington Mystics loss to the Dallas Wings earlier today. This sends the Sun to the WNBA postseason for the seventh consecutive season.

Connecticut enters 2023 playoff action coming off their 2022 WNBA Finals run a season ago. The Sun fell to the Las Vegas Aces in the Finals series, 3-1. Despite falling just two games short of a championship, Connecticut made WNBA postseason history during the 2022 playoffs. The Sun’s 18-0 scoring run to end Game 5 of the Semifinal series against Chicago marked the longest scoring run any team has mounted to finish a playoff game in league history.

Additionally, Sun forward Alyssa Thomas recorded the first-ever triple-double in WNBA Finals history in the Sun’s Game 3 Finals win over the Aces. Thomas went onto record another triple-double in Game 4 of the Finals making her the first player to notch two triple-doubles in back-to-back games (regular season or playoffs) in WNBA history.

The Connecticut Sun are 37-37 in postseason play and have not been eliminated earlier than the Semifinals since the 2018 season.

Established in 2003, the Connecticut Sun is a professional women’s basketball team in the Women’s National Basketball Association that takes residence at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. For additional information or to purchase tickets, visit www.connecticutsun.com.
