Uncasville, CT (February 10, 2025) – In celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day on February 5, the Connecticut Sun was a proud participant and host of a variety of activations and events throughout Connecticut and greater Boston area throughout the week of February 2-8.

On February 2, the Connecticut Sun Foundation sponsored 70+ tickets for the Hartford Boys and Girls Club to attend the UConn vs. Butler women’s basketball game at the XL Center in Hartford, CT. All of the attendees and their families received tickets to the game and a special edition National Girls and Women in Sports Day t-shirt.

On February 5, the Sun’s Community Relations and Youth Development Coordinator, Jenna Whelan, and Strength and Conditioning Coach, Analisse Rios, attended an assembly at the Renbrook School in West Hartford, CT to speak about their experiences in sports (basketball/soccer), college sports, and eventually careers in professional sports. This speaking engagement included 300+ students in grades 1-8 and focused on how sports can lead to character-building, education, and eventually a career.

Additionally on February 5, the Connecticut Sun’s youth basketball program, Sun Academy, worked alongside Hoops Collaborative, a youth development program based in Massachusetts whose mission is to promote wellness and health behavior through basketball. Sun Academy and Hoops Collaborative partnered to run a free clinic for 70+ girls in Brockton, MA. All participants received a Connecticut Sun Basketball and the special edition NGWSD T-shirt.

To wrap up National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebrations, the Connecticut Sun teamed up with other professional women’s sports teams in the Boston area, including the Boston Fleet (PWHL), BOS Nation (NWSL) and Boston Renegades (Women’s Football), as well as women’s sports lifestyle brand, TOGETHXR, to host an event on February 8 in Allston, MA. The free event included multiple sports clinics, a panel discussion and giveaway opportunities for the attendees.
