GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Connecticut Sun defeated the Minnesota Lynx, 86-79. The Sun pick up their second win over the Lynx this weekend on the road.
  • Connecticut moves to 19-9 on the year, while Minnesota falls to 10-19.
  • Natisha Hiedeman tied a career-high with 19 points, five assists and one steal to lead the Sun in the victory. She nailed a career-high five three-pointers.
  • Aerial Powers finished with 17 points, one rebound, four assists and two steals to lead the Lynx.
  • The Sun and Lynx were tied 6-6 headed into the first media timeout of the contest. Alyssa Thomas, Brionna Jones and Courtney Williams each had a bucket in the opening stretch.
  • Connecticut went on a 11-4 run out of that timeout, to take a 17-10 lead with 1:49 to play in the first quarter.
  • The Sun led the Lynx, 19-13, after the first quarter of action. Jones had five points, three rebounds and one steal to lead Connecticut after ten minutes of play.
  • Minnesota opened the second quarter on a 7-5 run, cutting Connecticut’s lead to four, 24-20, with 7:18 to go in the half. Jonquel Jones nailed a triple to lead the Sun in that stretch.
  • The Sun took a 42-32 lead into the locker room at the break, outscoring the Lynx 23-19 in the second quarter.
  • Jones led Connecticut at the half with 11 points, five rebounds and one steal. Nikolina Milic finished the first half with eight points, three rebounds and one steal to lead Minnesota.
  • The Sun outscored the Lynx in the paint (22-14), on the fast break (4-0) and in bench points (10-8), while the Lynx bested the Sun in second-chance points (8-7) through two quarters of play.
  • Connecticut shot 50% (17-34) from the field, while Minnesota was 40% (14-35) from the floor in the first half.
  • The Lynx opened the second half on a 6-1 run to cut the Sun’s lead to five and forcing them into an early timeout with 7:15 to go in the quarter.
  • Connecticut led Minnesota, 59-53, after three quarters of play. The Lynx outscored the Sun, 21-17, coming out of the locker room at the half.
  • DeWanna Bonner finished the third quarter with five points, one rebound, two assists and one steal to lead Connecticut during those 10 minutes of play.
  • The Sun opened the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run, extending their lead back up to 11, 66-55. Bonner had four of Connecticut’s seven points to open the quarter.
  • Despite a late run by the Lynx, the Sun were able to close out the victory, 86-79. Hiedeman had 10 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter of action.
  • Jones finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and two steals, while Thomas notched a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and one steal in the win.
  • Bonner had nine points, six rebounds, a career-high eight assists and a season-high five steals.
  • The Sun finished the night shooting 46.3% (31-67), while the Lynx were 42.9% (30-70) from the floor.

The Connecticut Sun are back home Thursday, July 24, to take on the Seattle Storm at 7:00PM ET at Mohegan Sun Arena. This will be the final regular season meeting between Connecticut and Seattle and the Sun will look to sweep the series, 3-0. In their last matchup, Connecticut defeated Seattle, 82-71, behind a 20-point performance from DeWanna Bonner, including 15 fourth quarter-points to seal the victory.
