Uncasville, CT (April 10, 2023) – With two picks in the 2023 WNBA Draft presented by State Farm®, the Connecticut Sun selected Alexis Morris at No. 22 and Ashten Prechtel at No. 34.
Morris comes to Connecticut after finishing her collegiate career as a National Champion at LSU. The 5-6 guard averaged a career-best 15.4 points, along with 2.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.8 steals during the 2022-23 season. Morris picked up First Team All-SEC honors this year, as well as Greenville Regional 2 All-Tournament Team and Final Four All-Tournament team selections on her way to the program’s first national title. The Beaumont, Texas native was also named a semifinalist for the Liberman Award as one of the nation’s top point guards. Prior to LSU, Morris began her collegiate career at Baylor and made stops at Rutgers and Texas A&M.
“We are very excited to get a first round talent in the second round,” said Darius Taylor, Connecticut Sun General Manager. “We look forward to having Alexis come to camp and show us why she’s a champion.”
Prechtel joins the Connecticut Sun after four successful seasons at Stanford University. The 6-5 forward leaves Palo Alto a NCAA Champion (2021), a three-time Pac-12 regular season champion (2021-23) and a two-time Pac-12 Tournament champion (2021, 22). She also has picked up Pac-12 All-Freshman Team Honorable Mention (2020) and Pac-12 Sixth Player of the Year – Media (2020) honors throughout her career at Stanford. One of her most notable performances came in the 2021 Elite Eight against Louisville where she scored 16 second-half points, including going 3-of-3 from behind the arc, to help Stanford overcome a 12-point deficit and advance to the Final Four.
“Ashten is a player we have had our eye on for a long time,” said Darius Taylor Connecticut Sun General Manager. “We are happy that we were able to add a big that can shoot the ball from the perimeter and give us versatility in the post.”
