Uncasville, CT – On Thursday, August 21, the Connecticut Sun hosted STEM Back to School Night, Presented by BuildSubmarines.com as the team took on the Washington Mystics at Mohegan Sun Arena.

The festivities began with students and fans visiting vendors around the concourse to learn about science and math, while receiving a glimpse of the best career paths in STEM, before the school year began. Companies and organizations in attendance included General Dynamics Electric Boat, Pfizer, the Wheeler School Robotics Club, Mystic Aquarium, New England Air Museum, Connecticut Science Center, and Force of Nature. The first few thousand fans to enter arena doors received a Connecticut Sun lunch bag and STEM Night activations continued from there as Blaze, wearing a lab coat and orange backpack, hyped up the crowd. STEM Night trivia was displayed intermittently throughout the evening and fans enjoyed in-game videos of players answering science questions such as: “what is an animal that does not eat meat called?”

The evening ended with the Connecticut Sun defeating the Washington Mystics 67-56, picking up a back-to-back win for the first time this season. Tina Charles led the Sun with 21 points while moving into sole possession of 10th all-time in games played in WNBA history.
