Uncasville, CT (August 27, 2024) – The Connecticut Sun hosted its second annual “Fitted by the Sun” event on August 22. 105 local students from the Norwich, CT area, between the ages of 5-17, were given a $200 gift card to Kohls Groton to shop for clothes and shoes to prepare for the new school year. Participants also received a Connecticut Sun backpack full of school supplies from the Connecticut Sun Foundation’s Back-to-School Supply Drive. In total, the Connecticut Sun Foundation donated $20,000+ in gift cards and school supplies.
The goal of the ‘Fitted by the Sun’ program is to give students the confidence to walk into school with a new pair of sneakers, a new outfit, and anything else that may make them feel prepared for the school year, despite their family’s ability to afford their necessities for their education; and the Sun did just that, impacting 50+ families this year.

And the best part is they get to shop for the items that serve them the best. Seeing the smiles on the students’ faces at the end of the shopping trip makes us realize what we do is making a difference in their lives and the lives of their families. We’re extremely appreciative of the support and partnership with St. Vincent DePaul Place in Norwich and Kohl’s in Groton for helping us bring this event to life and providing an amazing experience for all of the families we served.”
