Marina Mabrey’s Season-High Night Seals Sun 86-66 Victory Over Sparks

 Los Angeles, CA (September 10, 2024)- Tonight, the Connecticut Sun (26-10) defeated the Los Angeles Sparks (7-29), 86-66, on the road in Los Angeles. With the win, the Sun sweep the Sparks for the fourth consecutive regular season, 4-0. Connecticut has won the last 13 regular season meetings dating back to the 2020 season.

Marina Mabrey led the Sun in scoring with a season-high 26 points, tying her career-high with six made three-point field goals on the night. She also added two rebounds, four assists and one block in 27 minutes off the bench for Connecticut.

Brionna Jones added 19 points, eight rebounds, one assist and two blocks in the win. She has gone for 17+ points in Connecticut’s last five outings. DiJonai Carrington rounded out the double-digit scorers with 14 points, five rebounds and three steals. Tonight marked her ninth outing of the season with 3+ steals.

Alyssa Thomas finished three-points shy of what would have been her second straight triple-double. She notched seven points, 11 rebounds, 12 assists and one steal in the game. She also became the franchise leader in field goals made (1484), steals (491) and double-doubles (81) in tonight’s win.

The Sun trailed the Sparks 18-16 after the first quarter of play but began the second quarter on an 8-0 run to take the lead in the game for good, outscoring the Sparks, 70-48, the rest of the way.

Connecticut shot 53.2% (33/62) in the game, while holding Los Angeles to 38.8% (26-67) shooting from the field. The Sun notched 22 points over the Sparks’ 15 turnovers.

Rickea Jackson led the Sparks in scoring in the effort with 16 points and three assists. Azurá Stevens chipped in a double-double with 10 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.
