Jonquel Jones Receives Third Eastern Conference Player of the Week Award this Season

The WNBA announced today that Connecticut Sun forward, Jonquel Jones was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week. The recognition comes after games played from Sunday, Aug. 15 through Sunday, Aug. 22.
Jones last received the honor on July 12 for games played during the last week of the regular season before the Olympic break. This is the 10th time of her career and the third time this season she has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for her on court efforts.
The Connecticut Sun (17-6) competed in three competitions during Week 9 of WNBA action. The Sun beat the Dallas Wings on Sunday, Aug. 15 in Arlington, TX and then traveled home to defeat the Minnesota Lynx in back-to-back matchups on Tuesday, Aug. 17 and Thursday, Aug. 19.
Over the three-game span, Jones averaged 18.7 points per game, led the league for the week in rebounds with 11.7 and averaged 3.3 assists. She also led the league in field goal percentage, shooting .524 percent on 22-of-42 made shots.
In the team’s 80-59 win over the Wings, the 6-6 forward, scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds and dished out four assists.
The Sun went on to defeat the Lynx, 72-60 on Tuesday (8/17) where Jones tallied 17 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals. On Thursday (8/19), Connecticut (2-1) clinched the three-game series over Minnesota with a 82-71 victory. Jones finished the contest with 20 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a block.
