GAME PREVIEW: Sun Back Home to Host Dream Sunday Afternoon

Uncasville, CT:  The Connecticut Sun (16-4) are back home to host the Atlanta Dream (7-12) on Sunday, June 7 at 1:00 PM ET at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Sun are 1-1 against the Dream this season, dropping the last contest 78-74 on June 28 in Connecticut. The game will air on NBC Sports Boston and stream live on WNBA League Pass.

Last Time Out:

Last time out on Thursday night, the Connecticut Sun picked up a 78-73 road win over the Minnesota Lynx. DeWanna Bonner led Connecticut in scoring, notching a season-high tying 24 points on 10 of 16 shooting. She also added nine rebounds and one assist in the win. Alyssa Thomas had a career-night, tallying her 10th regular season triple-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and a season-high tying 14 assists. The Sun moved to 2-0 against the Lynx this season.

Sun All-Stars:

Connecticut Sun guard-forward DeWanna Bonner and center Brionna Jones were named 2024 AT&T WNBA All-Stars for Team WNBA, the league announced on Tuesday. This is the sixth WNBA All-Star selection for Bonner (2015, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024) and third selection for Jones (2021, 2022, 2024). Sun forward Alyssa Thomas joins the WNBA All-Stars who comprise the USA Basketball Women’s National Team and earns her fifth WNBA All-Star nod (2017, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024).

Making an Impact:

The Sun signed third-year guard Veronica Burton to a rest of season contract on June 5, 2024 and she is finding her groove with Connecticut on both ends of the floor. Over the Sun’s last four games, she has averaged 8.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 22.0 minutes per game. Burton also currently leads the team in field goal percentage, shooting 57.9% from the field over 11 games played.

Triple-Double Thomas:

Alyssa Thomas recorded her 10th regular season triple-double in the Sun’s 78-73 road win over the Minnesota Lynx with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists. It marked Thomas’ second triple-double of 2024 and her fourth triple-double against the Lynx in her career. The Sun are 8-2 during the regular season when Thomas records a triple-double, including 2-0 in 2024.

Opponent History:

Connecticut is 32-29 all-time against Atlanta during the regular season, including a 20-12 record at home. The Dream are coming off an 85-82 loss to the Dallas Wings on Friday, July 5. Allisha Gray led Atlanta in scoring with 19 points and eight assists, while Tina Charles added 12 points which moved her into 3rd all-time in scoring in WNBA history, passing Tamika Catchings. Head Coach Tanisha Wright is in her third season with Atlanta and is 2-7 all-time against Connecticut.
