Connecticut Sun Waives Joyner Holmes

Uncasville, CT (February 21, 2023) – The Connecticut Sun announced today that the team has waived forward Joyner Holmes. Holmes, originally drafted as the 19th overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft by Seattle, played her third season in the league in Connecticut.

The 6-3 forward appeared in 26 regular season contests for the Sun in 2022, finishing the season with 53 points, 35 rebounds, 12 assists, eight steals and two blocks. She tallied a season-high nine points and a career-high three steals in a 105-92 win over Atlanta on June 15. Holmes made her WNBA postseason debut on August 18 versus the Dallas Wings. She finished the playoffs with six points, nine rebounds, five assists and one steal.

“Due to cap space, we could no longer keep Joyner on our team. We wanted to give her an opportunity to make an opening day roster,” remarked Sun General Manager, Darius Taylor. “We are very appreciative of her contributions last season and wish her success in the future.”

Established in 2003, the Connecticut Sun is a professional women’s basketball team in the Women’s National Basketball Association that takes residence at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. For additional information or to purchase season tickets, visit www.connecticutsun.com.
