GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Sun opened the contest on an early 5-0 run, forcing the Aces to call a timeout one minute into the first quarter. Brionna Jones and Courtney Williams each had a bucket to start the game.
  • Connecticut took a 20-14 lead after the first quarter of play. Bonner had six points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal to lead the way for the Sun. The Aces have only scored 14 points or less in a quarter three times this season.
  • The Aces outscored the Sun, 7-4, to begin the second quarter, cutting into the Sun’s lead, 24-21. Joyner Holmes and DiJonai Carrington each had two points to pace Connecticut in that spurt.
  • The Sun took a 37-35 lead into the locker room at halftime. Bonner and Jones each had eight points to lead Connecticut in scoring. A’ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray each had 10 points to lead Las Vegas.
  • Connecticut shot 16-33 (48.5%) from the floor, while holding Las Vegas to 14-37 (37.8%) from the field.
  • The Sun outscored the Aces in the paint (22-16), in second-chance points (6-5), fast-break points (4-0) and bench points (7-0) in the first half.
  • Las Vegas opened the second half on a 9-0 run to take a 44-37 lead with 8:43 remaining in the quarter. Kelsey Plum had two three-point field goals to lead the Aces in that stretch.
  • The Aces outscored the Sun, 29-17, in the third quarter to take a 64-58 lead into the fourth. Bonner led the Sun in the third with six points and one rebound. Plum had 14 of her 22 points coming out of the locker room for the Aces.
  • Las Vegas outscored Connecticut 10-7 to begin the fourth quarter, taking a 74-65 lead with 7:22 to go in the game. The Aces’ Riquna Williams had two three-pointer field goals in that opening stretch.
  • The Sun cut the Aces’ lead down to five, 86-81, with 1:15 remaining in the game. However, Connecticut’s late push was not enough, as Las Vegas took home the win, 91-83.
  • Jones, Williams and Hiedeman each added 16 points in today’s loss. Alyssa Thomas grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds.
  • Connecticut finished the day shooting 47.7% (31-65), while Las Vegas was 41.9% (31-74) from the floor.
  • The Aces scored 33 points off the Sun’s 22 turnovers.
  • Connecticut outscored Las Vegas in the paint (36-30) and on the fast break (8-5). Both teams had 15 second-chance points.

 

NEXT GAME

The Connecticut Sun are back home Tuesday, July 19 to take on the New York Liberty at 11:30 AM EST at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Sun are 1-2 against the Liberty this season but have won eight of the last ten meetings dating back to the 2019 regular season. In their last matchup on June 22 in Uncasville, Connecticut fell to New York, 81-77. Courtney Williams had 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in the effort.
