The event featured a Court Unveiling Ceremony and a Sun Academy Free Basketball Clinic
Groton, CT (June 13, 2025)- The Connecticut Sun, in collaboration with the City of Groton, Electric Boat, and BuildSubmarines.com, proudly unveiled the refreshed basketball courts at Groton’s Washington Park on Friday, June 13. The $120,000 revitalization project included resurfaced pavement, brand-new hoops, and fresh paint- now welcome community members and aspiring athletes alike.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured speakers including Connecticut Sun President Jen Rizzotti, City of Groton Mayor Keith Hendrick, Electric Boat Vice President of Real Estate and Facilities David Roberts, Maritime Industrial Base representatives Courtney Wolfe and Joelle Schmitz, and Kyle Hoddy from BlueForge Alliance.
Coinciding with the celebration, a complimentary Sun Academy basketball clinic for over 80 youth ages 7-14 offered skill-building drills, scrimmage time, and pro-tips led by Sun Academy coaches and Connecticut Sun players, Rayah Marshall and Lindsay Allen. The even kicked off the summer in style, featuring energizing activities, giveaways including two Connecticut Sun vs. Indiana Fever tickets and an autographed Connecticut Sun jersey.
