Connecticut Sun Sign Kristine Anigwe and Lauren Cox to Training Camp Contracts

Uncasville, CT (February 7, 2023) – The Connecticut Sun has signed forwards, Kristine Anigwe and Lauren Cox to training camp contracts, the team announced today. Per team policy, no details were released.

 

Anigwe returns to Connecticut after originally being drafted ninth overall in the 2019 draft by the Sun out of the University of California. She played her rookie season in Connecticut, before being traded to Los Angeles in 2020. Throughout her career, Anigwe has made appearances for the Sparks, as well as the Dallas Wings in 2021. Most recently, the 6-4 forward signed a training camp contract with the Phoenix Mercury for the 2022 season, where she appeared in 10 contests, tallying 15 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks. Anigwe currently plays for Italian League club, Ragusa, where is she averaging 17.0 points and 11.1 rebounds per game.

 

“Kristine is a veteran post that has played in Connecticut before and has experience in our league. She can be a defensive presence and has continued to expand her game,” remarked Sun General Manager, Darius Taylor. “We look forward to having her in camp.”

 

Cox was originally drafted with the third overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever out of Baylor University. The 6-4 forward appeared in 14 contests for the Fever during her rookie season, averaging 13.1 minutes per game. In 2021, Cox saw action in 11 games before the Fever waived her, but she finished the year on a rest of season contract with the Los Angeles Sparks. With the Sparks, she appeared in 15 contests and averaged 2.6 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Most recently, Cox signed a training camp contract with Los Angeles in 2022 but was waived prior to the season. She is currently playing overseas for Valencia Basket, a premier Spanish League club. Cox is currently averaging 12.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, as Valencia sits in third place in EuroLeague standings.

 

“Lauren has continued to improve throughout her pro career. Her size, rebounding, shot blocking and improved perimeter shot will be welcomed. We’re looking forward to her arrival to camp,” said Taylor.

 

The Sun tip off the 2023 season on Friday, May 19 at the Indiana Fever at 7:00 PM EST.
